Tifariti (Liberated Territories), Dec 21, 2011(SPS) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salem Ould Salek called Tuesday in Tifariti “historical” the US congress decision to make conditional the military aid to Morocco upon human rights respect.


''We praise the U.S. decision requires respect for human rights before providing any military aid to Morocco,''Ould Salek told Algerian Press Service APS on the sidelines of the 13th Congress of the Polisario.

he considered considering it ''a historic decision to make the assets of the U.S. Congress.''

Commencement of the election of National Secretariat members of Frente Polisario

Tifariti (liberated territories) Dec, 21, 2011 (SPS) - The election of the National Secretariat members of Frente Polisario commenced early morning, during the 6th day of the Polisario Front’s 13th Congress taking place in the liberated tifariti.

The official list of the candidates for the National Secretariat has reached Tuesday night 147 candidates, after adding names of the free candidates, according to a source from the election committee.

Mariano Rajoy sworn in before king as Spain’s new prime minister

Madrid, Dec 21, 2011 (SPS) - Conservative Mariano Rajoy has been sworn in before King Juan Carlos on Tuesday to become Spain’s new prime minister.

Rajoy’s Popular Party won a landslide victory in Nov. 20 elections on promises to lift Spain out of its economic crisis.

Rajoy took the oath Wednesday in the Zarzuela Palace on Madrid’s outskirts. He is to name his Cabinet of ministers later in the day.

He replaces Socialist party leader Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, who took office in 2004.

Re-election of Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz as secretary general of the Frente Polisario

Christopher Ross to visit Western Sahara and Morocco before April 2012

Tifariti (Liberated Territory), Dec 20, 2011(SPS) - UN Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Christopher Ross, plans to visit the region before April 2012, Polisario Front representative to the UN, Boukhari Ahmed underlined Tuesday in Liberated Territory of Tifariti.

 

In statement to media on the sidelines of Polisario Front 13th congress, Mr. Boukhari Ahmed expressed readiness of Saharawi people leadership to revive peace process in Western Sahara.

 

U.S. Congress requires the respect for human rights in Western Sahara for military assistance to Morocco

Washington, Dec 20, 2011 (SPS) - The U.S. Congress passed Tuesday an act calling on the Department of State “to require the respect of human rights in Western Sahara as a precondition for any financial and military assistance appropriated for Morocco.”

This act, which was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate, contains financial appropriations allocated for Foreign Military Financing Program for assistance for other countries for the year 2012.

Launch of election of the Polisario’s Secretary General

Tifarirt (lebirated territories) Dec, 20, 2011 (SPS)- The election of the Frente Polisario’s Secretary General has launched this evening at 18:30 pm, which is also the president of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, according to the requirements of the Basic Law.

The president of the SADR, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, is considered the only candidate who presented his file to the committee of the election for the seat of the Polisario’s Secretary General.

U.S. Congress calls on Morocco to open occupied Western Sahara for international organizations and journalists

Washington, Dec 20, 2011 (SPS) - Congress of the United States called Tuesday on the Moroccan government to open the occupied territories of Western Sahara for human rights organizations, journalists, and representatives of foreign governments.

In a communiqué on the occasion of the ratification on the “Foreign Military Financing Program” for assistance for Morocco, the Congress called on Morocco “to provide unimpeded access to human rights organizations, journalists, and representatives of foreign governments to the Western Sahara.”

Extending the works of Polisario Thirteeth Congress for 48 hours

“As the Congress cames to the last day of its legal period, the presidency of the Congress, and in pursuant to the Article 63 of the Basic Law of the Polisario Front, decided to extend the Congress for 48 hours starting from midday at GMT liberated Tifariti,” Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, spokesman of the Congress presidency told SPS.

5th day of Polisario Congress: endorsement of election committee’s work

Tifariti (liberated territories), Dec 20, 2011 (SPS) - The participants at the Polisario 13th Congress endorsed Tuesday the work presented by the election committee, which has been adopted Monday by the Congress, a source of the Congress presidency informed.

SADR participates at the Second AU Conference on Mineral Resources

Addis Ababa, Dec 19, 2011 (SPS) - The Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic has participated at the second ordinary session of the AU Conference of Mineral Resources Ministers taking place in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on Dec 12-16.

At the end of its session, the Conference adopted the declaration of Addis Ababa on building a sustainable future for the mining industry in Africa, which recognized the sovereign right of the Member States of the African Union to protect and save their natural resources from foreign looting and exploitation.

Tifariti (liberated territories), Dec 19, 2011 (SPS) - Delegates of the Polisario 13th Congress unanimously voted Monday morning for the election committee proposed by the Congress presidency, which will organize the election of the Secretary General and National Secretariat members.

The Committee, which includes 85 members chaired by the Coordinator with MINURSO Mohamed Khadad, will set a programme of action to be presented to the Congress for ratification.
