Re-election of Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz as secretary general of the Frente Polisario

Tifariti (liberated territories), Dec 21, 2011 (SPS) - The re-election of Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz as a secretary general of the Frente Polisario declared on Tuesday night to Wednesday, after he got a percentage of 96%, 1551 from numbers of the votes expressed, according to the election committee.

The committee of election declared after counting the votes that the number of delegates at the Congress reached 2095, votes expressed 1622, rejected papers 32 and empty voting papers 39, noting that the percentage of participation in the voting process for the post of Secretary-General of the Polisario Front had reached 77%.

According to requirements of the Article 99 of POLISARIO Basic Law and after Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz obtained more than two quarters of the casted votes in the election process, he becomes Secretary General of the Polisario Front.

The Committee pointing out that the election process went smoothly in an atmosphere of transparency and credibility, indicating that they recorded some little problems such as “non-conformity” in the names of some voters in the lists, but this did not affect the process.

It should be recalled that Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz has been elected a secretary general of the Polisario Front for the eleventh time, since the third Congress of August 1976.

It is note worthy that the election of members of the Polisario National Secretariat started early morning, whereas the Congress ratified on Tuesday night to Wednesday the programme of national action.

It is expected that messages and recommendations committee present its work later after the end of the National Secretariat’s election, according to a source of the Congress presidency. (SPS)
