Washington, Dec 20, 2011 (SPS) - Congress of the United States called Tuesday on the Moroccan government to open the occupied territories of Western Sahara for human rights organizations, journalists, and representatives of foreign governments.

In a communiqué on the occasion of the ratification on the “Foreign Military Financing Program” for assistance for Morocco, the Congress called on Morocco “to provide unimpeded access to human rights organizations, journalists, and representatives of foreign governments to the Western Sahara.”

“Government of Morocco should respect the right of individuals to peacefully express their opinions regarding the status and future of the Western Sahara and to document violations of human rights,” the communiqué added. (SPS)
