Minister of Culture stresses Africa’s leading role in supporting Saharawi cause

Abuja, June 29, 2013 (SPS) - The Minister of Culture Ms. Khadija Hamdi has highlighted from Abuja the leading role played by Africa in supporting the struggle of Saharawi people, in a speech delivered Friday on the occasion of the High Level Meeting of GlobalPOWEr Women Network Africa, convened in the capital of Nigeria (Abuja).


Ms. Khadija Hamdi talked about the flagrant violations of human rights being committed by Moroccan state against Saharawi women in the occupied territory of Western Sahara.

Occupied El Aaiun: clashes between Moroccan police and Saharawi demonstrators

El Aaiun (occupied territories), June 29, 2013 (SPS) - Clashes erupted Friday in the occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara, between Saharawi demonstrators and Moroccan occupation police, in uniform and plain clothes, after this latter stormed the house of a Saharawi family, as quoted by some eyewitnesses.

 

SADR attends meeting of GlobalPOWER Women Network Africa in Abuja

Abuja, June 28, 2013 (SPS) - A very high-level Saharawi delegation, led by the Minister of Culture Ms. Khadija Hamdi, participated Thursday at work of the Second High Level Meeting of GlobalPOWEr Women Network Africa, convened in Abuja, in the presence of heads of several African states, ministers, parliamentarians and international partners, notably Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).

Pretoria, June 28, 2013 (SPS) - The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa Ms. Maite Nkoana-Mashabane has reaffirmed that her country’s position remains that of decolonization and self-determination of the Saharawi people, stressing the need to urgently convene a referendum to allow Saharawis to choose their destiny.

South Africa and SADR signs three Memorandums of Understanding

Pretoria, June 28, 2013 (SPS) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Saharawi Republic (SADR) Mr. Mohame Salem Ould Salek and the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa Ms. Maite Nkoana-Mashabane have signed three important Memorandums of Understanding.


The first one is about cooperation between the two countries, the second about youth as well as sports, and the third about demining.

Minister of Foreign Affairs on a working visit to South Africa

Pretoria, June 27, 2013 (SPS) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek paid today a working visit to South Africa at the invitation of his counterpart Ms. Maite Mathabani.

 

The visit will enable ministers to sign agreements in several fields in order to upgrade the distinguished relations between the two brotherly countries.

 

"violent" Assault against Saharawi political prisoner Kamal Traih in Lakhal jail in occupied Laiun

Occupied Laiun, 27 June, 2013 (SPS) - The Sahrawi human rights activist and political prisoner Kamal Traih has experienced on Wednesday physical "violent" assault by Lakhal  jail agent in the occupied city of Laiun , leading to his injury at the level of the hands, as was reported by the Ministry of occupied territories and communities.

 

The source added that the Saharawi political prisoner Kamal Traih has been threaten that he would be put in a solitary confinement by the prison administration.

Sahrawi Government condemns involvement of occupied territories in the process of exporting drugs

New York, June 27, 2013 (SPS)- The UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon has stresses the need for human rights sustained monitoring in Western Sahara, in a readout issued Monday on the UN website, after the Secretary-General's meeting with Taib Fassi Fihri, Advisor of King Mohammed VI of Morocco

    

He called on Morocco “to observe international human rights standards and stressed the need for sustained monitoring in Western Sahara” the readout reported

 

Lavrov calls for respecting human rights in Western Sahara

MOSCOW , June 26, 2013 (SPS)- Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergueï Lavrov called Tuesday in Moscow for the respect for human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

 

“Needless to say that human rights must be respected in Western Sahara. This was underlined in the resolution adopted last April by the UN’s Security Council,” Lavrov told a joint conference with Minister of Foreign Affairs Mourad Medelci at the end of their discussions.

Moscow, June 26, 2013 (SPS) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria, Mourad Medelci, said Tuesday in Moscow that Russia and Algeria are committed to international law and respect for human rights in Western Sahara.

 

In a press conference at the end of his talks with his Russian counterpart, Mourad Medelci said that the meeting focused in particular on the Western Sahara conflict, highlighting the similarity of the views of both countries.

ICB tackles the problems of landmine victims in Sahrawi Refugee Camps

Geneva, June 25, 2013 (SPS)- The International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) and the Cluster Munition Coalition (CMC) have tackled the problems of landmine victims in Sahrawi refugee Camps,in a briefing paper on the occasion of World Refugee Day issued last week

 

The ICBL paper reported Awala Lahbib, a landmine survivor leader in Western Sahara from ICBL-CMC member, Saharawi Association of Mine Victims (ASAVIM) in the Sahrawi refugee camps in Algeria.

Eurodeputies in Western Sahara to inquire about human rights situation

London, June 24, 2013 (SPS) - A delegation of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats at the European Parliament is in Western Sahara to inquire about the situation of human rights in the occupied territories, the representative of the Polisario Front to the United Kingdom, Mr. Limam Mohamed Ali, said Sunday.

Special envoy of Saharawi president received by Tanzanian president

Dar es-Salam, June 24, 2013 (SPS) - The President of the Federal Republic of Tanzania, Mr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, received Monday evening at the presidential palace in Dar es-Salam, capital of Tanzania, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, Foreign Minister of SADR and personal envoy of the President of the Republic Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz.


Mr. Ould Salek delivered a letter to the President of Tanzania from his Saharawi counterpart.
