Brussels, June 26, 2013 (SPS) - Polisario Front Deputy Minister for Europe, Mohamed Sidati, called Tuesday's statements by the MEP María Muñiz, in contradiction with the position of the European Parliament, the African Union, United Nations Security Council.

"Deputy Muñiz obviously leaves her deliberate support for the Moroccan expansionist thesis detrimental to the legitimate rights of the Saharawi people to self-determination and in flagrant contradiction with the position of the European Parliament, the African Union, United Nations and Security Council "said Sidati in a press release.

The Delegate Minister for Europe said that the Polisario Front "notes with surprise and dismay" statements by socialist MEP María Muñiz de Urquiza, delivered via telephone to efe agency in Rabat and dated on June 24, 2013.

The deputy Muñiz de Urquiza was part of the delegation of S & D Group of the European Parliament who had just completed a visit to the occupied city of Laayoune in Western Sahara and Morocco.

The deputy said she has appreciated "a climate of certain openness" and found "advances in the field of human rights" in anticipation of the Western Sahara to the joint statement of the entire delegation of the European Parliament, thereby aiming to distance herself from the position of her European colleagues.

"Deputy Muniz goes even further by stating that the idea of autonomy proposed by Morocco, as the only solution to the conflict, is an alternative that can be a start to unlocking the dispute”, Sidati added.

"These unwelcome statements do not reflect the reality of oppression and repression verified on-site by the same European Parliament delegation," he said. (SPS)
