WFDY : It is unacceptable that Western Sahara still lacks UN human rights protecting mechanisms

Geneva, June06, 2013 (SPS)- The World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY),  non-governmental organization, has said that “It is unacceptable that Western Sahara still lacks an official UN human rights permanent monitoring and reporting mechanisms while it is still on the UN list of decolonization and under its authority”, in Written statement submitted to the Human Rights Council in Geneva on May22, 2013

 

Sahrawi Republic and Honduras decide to establish diplomatic relations at ambassador’s level

Tegucigalpa, June 06, 2013 (SPS) - The Government of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, SADR, and Honduras have signed on Wednesday a joint statement in which they expressed the desire to establish diplomatic relations between the two countries at ambassador’s level.


The event took place yesterday morning at the Presidential Palace in Tegucigalpa where President Porfirio Lobo and the Saharawi President's Special Envoy, Hash Ahmed signed the official document.

President of Republic meets members of Senate and U.S. Congress

Washington (USA), June05, 2013(SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz, met yesterday with members of the USA Senate and Congress, on the first day of his visit to the United States of America, which began on Wednesday.

 

The meetings dealt with the latest developments of the Sahrawi cause, especially in light of the continuing grave violations of human rights committed by the Moroccan occupation state.

 

Reporters Without Borders condemns the "hindrance" to freedom of information in Western Sahara

Paris, June 06, 2013 (SPS) - The NGO Reporters Without Borders condemned Tuesday the policy of "obstruction to freedom of information imposed by the Moroccan authorities in Western Sahara" after Morocco's refusal to allow entry of a foreign journalist who wanted to write an article on the political situation and human rights in the territory.

 

Minister of Employment, Training and Public Function on a working visit in Mexico

South Africa renews firm commitment to Saharawi people’s right to self-determination and independence

Danish FM supports UN referendum in Western Sahara

Copenhagen (Denmark), June 2, 2013 (SPS) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark Mr. Villy Søvndal expressed support to the UN referendum in Western Sahara, hoping that United Nations will succeed in organizing such a referendum, informed POLISARIO representation to Denmark.


In a programme about Western Sahara broadcasted Friday on the Danish radio, the Minister said “it is vital that the UN plays a leading role in ensuring that there will be a referendum. I obviously hope that the UN will succeed in organizing such a referendum.”

Tanzania asks Morocco to implement self-determination referendum of Saharawi people

Dodoma (Tanzania), June 2, 2013 (SPS) - The United Republic of Tanzania has asked the Kingdom of Morocco to implement the UN-AU proposed referendum on self-determination for the people of Western Sahara to decide their own destiny, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Tanzania, Hon. Bernard Membe, during his speech on Wednesday before the National Assembly (parliament) to present his ministry’s budget for fiscal year 2013-14, according to Saharawi diplomatic sources.

Polisario Front takes part at Socialist International Women’s meeting in Mexico

Mexico City, June 2, 2013 (SPS) - A Saharawi delegation, led by the Minister of Vocational Training, Public Function and Employees Ms. Khira Bullahi, has attended the regional meeting of Socialist International Women, convened on Friday and Saturday in the Mexican capital, informed a source from SADR embassy in Mexico.


The meeting was attended by delegations from numerous Latin American countries.


The two-day meeting examined several issues relate to job, workers’ conditions, grants and others.

Moroccan forces continues its operations of kidnapping in occupied Smara

Smara (occupied territories), June 1, 2013 (SPS) - Moroccan occupation forces kidnapped Thursday dawn at 03:00 two young Saharawis in the occupied city of Smara, on the ground of their participation at the demonstrations that took place in the occupied city on 24-25 May 2013.


SPS correspondent in the occupied city of Smara reported that Moroccan security forces kidnapped Bachir Karum and Lehbib Siba from the house of Mbarek family, near the old mosque, before being driven to unknown destination.

Spain to host more than 4,500 Saharawi children this summer

Madrid, June 01, 2013 (SPS) - More than 4,500 children from the Saharawi refugee camps will spend 2013 summer holidays with hosting families in Spain in the framework of “Holidays in Peace Programme”, according to the Spanish Agency “Europa Press”.


A total of 4,589 children, accompanied by 210 escorts will spend two months in Spain, according to the declaration of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, quoted by the same source.
