UN: Agreement reached to expand visits between separated Sahrawi families

Gneva, July04, 2013(SPS) – A meeting between the United Nations refugee agency, the two parties Polisario Front and Morocco, as well as the neighboring counties Algeria and Mauritania was held yesterday in Geneva with agreement to expand a programme of family visits between Sahrawi refugees living in camps near Tindouf, Algeria, and their families in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

 

Wali of al-Ayun hails AU’s interest in Western Sahara’s independence

ALGIERS,July04, 2013 (SPS)- The wali (governor) of Sahrawi town of al-Ayun, Hama El Bounya, hailed Saturday in Algiers African Union’s interest in the independence of Western Sahara, considered by the AU as a "priority" issue.

 

"I welcome African Union’s interest in Western Sahara’s independence. It shows that the Saharawi issue is a key priority for the organization," El Bounya told APS on the sidelines of the opening of a Saharawi cultural week in Central Algiers.

 

Italy: installation of parliamentary intergroup for solidarity with the Saharawi people

Rome, July 3, 2013 (SPS)-The Italian Parliamentary Intergroup of solidarity with the Saharawi people was installed Wednesday at a meeting in the Parliament headquarters in Rome.

 

The Intergroup, which was formed in the presence of some 70 parliamentarians belonging to different groups in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, is tasked with developing initiatives, studies and activities to support the Saharawi people right to self-determination, "according to a statement by its members.

 

President of Republic Supervises Graduation of a military troop of Sahrawi Army

Boujdour (Saharawi refugee camps) July 3, 2013 (SPS) –The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, has supervised today morning  the Graduation of martyr Ibrahim Bilal Bidi military troop from  martyr Elwali military School, in presence of members of the National Secretariat and the Sahrawi government and an Algerian delegation as well as a delegation representing the MINURSO Mission, along with members of the national Council and the Saharawi People's army staff.

 

Minister of Cooperation on a working visit to Italy

Emilia Romagna (Italy), July 03, 2013 (SPS)- The Minister of Cooperation Brahim Mokhtar, was received on Tuesday, along with the Polisario Front representative to Italy Omih Omar, by the president of the Parliament the region of Emilia Romagna, Vilma Costi.

 

During the meeting, both sides discussed the current situation in the refugee camps and the impact of the global economic crisis and the human rights situation in the occupied territories and the need for the existence of a protecting mechanism.

UN increases MINURSO budget to over 61 million Dollars

New York, July 2, 2013 (SPS)- The UN General Assembly has approved a budget of $ 61.7 million for the financing of the United Nations Mission for the organization of a Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) for the period from 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014 against $ 60.8 million in the previous year.
