El Aaiun (occupied territories), June 29, 2013 (SPS) - Clashes erupted Friday in the occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara, between Saharawi demonstrators and Moroccan occupation police, in uniform and plain clothes, after this latter stormed the house of a Saharawi family, as quoted by some eyewitnesses.

The sources reported that Moroccan occupation police and auxiliary forces stormed the house of Al-Fodeil family, in an attempt to arrest their son Al-Husein Ould Abdi. This act sparked mass demonstrations in Tan Tan street, near the family’s house.

Moroccan policemen, wearing black masks, stormed the family’s house leaving a state of panic and terror, said the source.

They smashed down the doors, damaged the furniture and personal needs of the family. This act left a state of resentment and anger among the Saharawi citizens who chanted slogans demanding self-determination and independence, it added.

After the spread of the demonstrations into the suburbs of Tan Tan’s street, Moroccan police called additional reinforcement to control the situation. (SPS)
