President of Republic invites Qatar to play a role in promoting negotiations between the Polisario Front and Morocco

Bir Lahlou (liberated territories), June 26, 2013 (SPS)- The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the POLISARIO Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz, has invited Qatar to play a role in driving the process of direct negotiations between the two parties of the conflict, Polisario and Morocco, under the auspices of the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Christopher Ross.

 

The invitation of President Mohamed Abdelaziz to Qatar has taken place in a congratulatory message to Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the named emir of Kingdom of Qatar.

 

The President has urged Qatar to work for the respect of human rights, through the incorporation of a monitoring and protection mandated in the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara, MINURSO.

 

President Mohamed Abdelaziz has asked the new Emir Hamad bin Tamim al-Thani to persuade Morocco to meet the requirements of international law and accept "democratic solution to enable the Saharawi people to decide their future freely and transparently through holding a free, fair and impartial referendum"

 

The President praised the relations that bind the Sahrawi Republic and Qatar. "We expect that relations which join the SADR with Qatar deepen even more with Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani".

 

President Mohamed Abdelaziz recalled the role played by Qatar in different stages to alleviate the sufferings of the two peoples, the Saharawi and Moroccan citing Qatar's mediation for the release of Moroccan prisoners of war held by the Saharawi Liberation Army during the fighting started with the Moroccan invasion of Western Sahara in 1975.
