Algerian President receives UN Personal Envoy for Western Sahara

Algiers, November 24, 2015 (SPS) .- The President of Algeria, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, on Monday received the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Western Sahara, Christopher Ross, as part of a new tour to the region to relaunch negotiations between Polisario Front and Morocco.
 

The meeting was attended by the Algerian Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Ramtan Lamamra and Minister for Maghreb and African Affairs, Abdelkader Msahel.

Saharawi cause under media blackout, Swedish delegation chief

ALGIERS, November 24, 2015 (SPS) - The head of Swedish Social Democratic Youth League for Western Sahara's delegation, Hmida Benatallah, said Monday the Saharawi cause is under media blackout.

He also added that an action is undertaken now to shed light on this just cause to arouse the appropriate interest, considering Saharawi people's sufferings. (SPS)

Ban Ki-moon expected soon in region to relaunch negotiation between Morocco, Polisario Front

ALGIERS,November 24, 2015 (SPS) - Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon intends to travel soon to the region to try and relaunch negotiations between Morocco and Polisario Front as part of the UN process aimed at finding a solution to this conflict.

 

“Ban Ki-moon wants to visit the region in the coming months to bring, himself, a contribution to the search of a solution to this conflict that has lasted too long,” said the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General to Western Sahara, Christopher Ross.

 

US grants over $4 million to Sahrawis following bad weather in refugees camps

Algiers, 23 Nov 2015 (SPS) - The United States of America has announced to grant more than 4 million dollars to the Sahrawi people to support the humanitarian aid efforts following the floods in the Sahrawi refugee camps in the region of Tindouf, within the next three months.

Shaheed El Hafed, November 23, 2015 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz, received Monday the credentials of the Ambassador of Ecuador to the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) Mr. Jose Rafael Serrano.

 

The reception ceremony of Ambassador Jose Rafael Serrano was held at the SADR Presidency, where he presented his credentials to the President of the Republic as the Ambassador of Ecuador to the Saharawi Republic.  

Namibia calls for implementation of UN Referendum on Western Sahara

Windhoek, 23 Nov 015 (SPS) - Namibian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called  for the “immediate” implementation of the UN Referendum on Western Sahara and the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions on Palestine.

 

In an intervention, during the annual meeting of the diplomatic corps accredited in Windhoek, Ms. Nandi-Ndaitwah stressed that the prolonged human suffering of the Saharawi and the Palestinians people is not conducive to international peace and security.

Republic of Mauritius renews its recognition of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic

Port Louis (Mauritius) November 23, 2015 (SPS) - The Government of the Republic of Mauritius has restored its recognition of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).

 

In a statement issued Friday Council of Ministers in the Government of the Republic of Mauritius renewed its recognition of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic “as a full sovereignty state, based on the orientations of the government to establish new relations across the world”.

Russian Communist Party reiterates support to Saharawi people's self-determination right

Moscow, (Russia) -The head of the International Department of the Russian Communist Party's Central Committee, Andrei Filipov, has reiterated his party's position in favour of Western Sahara people's right to self-determination, stressing the need to continue contacts between his political group and the Polisario Front to raise consciousness among Russian public opinion.

Ross to start trip to region Monday

Washington, 22 Nov 2015 (SPS) - The United Nations Secretary General's Personal Envoy, Christopher Ross will start a ten-day trip to the region on Monday in a bid to resume talks between the Polisario Front and Rabat.

 

The UN envoy will hold discussions with officials of Morocco and the Polisario Front, and will also go to Algeria and Mauritania as observer countries of the peace process in Western Sahara, Polisaro Front's representative to the UN Ahmed Boukhari indicated, without elaborating about the stages of the trip.
