Algiers, 23 Nov 2015 (SPS) - The United States of America has announced to grant more than 4 million dollars to the Sahrawi people to support the humanitarian aid efforts following the floods in the Sahrawi refugee camps in the region of Tindouf, within the next three months.

This additional aid, which will be scheduled through the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), is added to the $8.4 million released in 2015 by the United States for the Sahrawi refugees, said US ambassador to Algiers in a communiqué.

It includes “around £2.5 million for UNHCR, $1.5 million for WFP and more than 400,000 dollars for UNICEF, as part of the operations in favour of the Sahrawi refugees from the Department of State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration,” said the source.

The US contributions will help “providing emergency tents and supporting the restoration and reconstruction of damaged houses.” (SPS)
