Moscow, (Russia) -The head of the International Department of the Russian Communist Party's Central Committee, Andrei Filipov, has reiterated his party's position in favour of Western Sahara people's right to self-determination, stressing the need to continue contacts between his political group and the Polisario Front to raise consciousness among Russian public opinion.

Filipov, who received the representative of the Polisario Front, Ali Salem Mohamed Fadel, in Moscow, insisted on "the need to continue contacts between the Communist Party and the Polisario Front to raise consciousness among Russian public opinion, especially the new generations, on Saharawi people's legitimate struggle for liberty and independence.

During the meeting, the Saharawi representative informed Filipov of the latest developments about the Saharawi cause, including media and military blockade imposed by Moroccan occupation authorities on the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

Alisalem Mohamedfadel also mentioned the banning of international organizations and NGO members from visiting the occupied territories to enquire about the tragic situation of Saharawi civilians.

Registered as a non-autonomous territory since 1966, hence the need to implement UN General Assembly Resolution 1514 about granting independence to countries and people under colonial rule, Western Sahara is Africa's last colony, occupied since 1975 by Morocco. (SPS)
