Delegation from occupied territories visits refugee camps

Shaheed Elhafed (Refugee Camps), March 26, 2015 (SPS) - A human rights delegation from the Occupied Territories of Western Sahara and the southern of  Morocco started on Wednesday a visit to the refugee camps.  

 

The delegation will participate in numerous activities including the conference of the northern community students branch and the military competition in the liberated city of Tifariti.

President of Republic offers condolences to Chancellor of Germany

Bir Lehlou (Liberated Zones), March 26, 2015(SPS) -The President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Frente Polisario, Mohamed Abdelaziz, has sent a condolence letter to the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, following the tragic airplane crash that occurred on Tuesday.

 

“On behalf of the Government and the Saharawi people, I would like to convey to you and to the German people our sincere condolences and solidarity in these painful moments,” said President Mohamed Abdelaziz in his letter to Angela Markel. 

 

EU supports UN efforts to resolve Western Sahara conflict

Strasburg (France), March 26, 2015 (SPS) -The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Mrs. Federica Mogherini reaffirmed on Wednesday that the EU supports the efforts of the UN Secretary General to find a political solution, which ensure the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.

Embezzlement of European Union aid to Sahrawi refugees: Unfair accusations, says EU

Brussels, March 26, 2015 (SPS) - European Union (EU) on Wednesday dubbed "unfair" accusations Morocco's allegations about misappropriation of its humanitarian aid to the Saharawi refugee camps in Tindouf.

 

"The accusations of embezzlement of the EU humanitarian aid to refugee camps in Tindouf are unfair, especially in view of the efforts and measures taken by the European Commission," said Kristalina Georgieva, the deputy chief of the European Commissioner in charge of Budget and Human Resources.

Tunis, March 26, 2015 (SPS) - The Sahrawi delegation, participating in the 13th World Social Forum (WSF) which is being held in Tunis (from 24 to 28 March), is working to expand the sphere of the international solidarity with the Sahrawi cause, affirmed Wednesday the head of the Sahrawi delegation, Secretary General of the Sahrawi workers  Mohamed Mohamed Cheikh Lahbib.

 

Western Sahara: Christopher Ross holds working session with Polisario Front negotiators

Shaheed Elhafed (Refugee Camps) - Personal Envoy of UN Secretary General for Western Sahara Christopher Ross Tuesday held a working meeting with the Polisario Front negotiators.

 

On the sidelines of the meeting, the negotiator Ahmed Bukhari said that the visit came in advance of the presentation of the report on Western Sahara to the Security Council, stating that "Ross’s presence in the refugee camps reflects UN seriousness in its quest for a settlement of the Saharawi case."

Shaheed Elhafed, March 25, 2015 (SPS) - Former commander of the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), General Kurt Mosgaard, affirmed that the supervision of the Human Rights in Western Sahara must be within the mandate of the MINURSO.

 

 

 General Kurt Mosgaard who was the guest of the Western Sahara Intergroup in the European Parliament, called for respect for human rights in Western Sahara "which is still a colony."

AWSA urges Australia to make Western Sahara imports illegal

Melbourne (Australia), March 24, 2015 (SPS) - Following its international conference held 19 - 20 March in Melbourne on the natural resources of Western Sahara, the Australia Western Sahara Association (AWSA) called on the Federal Government to prohibit Australian company trade in Western Saharan resources from the occupied territory and to push the UN to force a breakthrough in the 40 year stalemate of Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara.

 

Saharawi political prisoner Ahmed S'bai starts unlimited hunger strike

Salé, March 24, 2015 (SPS) - Saharawi political prisoner Ahmed S'bai started Monday unlimited hunger strike to protest against the miserable conditions and mistreatment of the administration in Salé jail 1, according to Sahrawi human rights source.

 

This hunger strike is a means to pressure the jail administration to open a file on the physical and psychological torture of the human rights activist by their jailers.

UN Secretary-General Personal Envoy begins visit in Saharawi refugee camps

 Shaheed Elhafed (Refugee Camps), March 23, 2015 (SPS) - The Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Western Sahara, Christopher Ross, begam Monday a working visit of three days in the Saharawi refugee camps with a view to prepare a new meeting of negotiations between the Polisario Front and Morocco.

 

 During his stay, Mr. Ross will hold meetings with officials of the Frente POLISARIO and members of the Saharawi government.

 

Landmine blast in Zazayat kills Sahrawi civilian

Mijek (Liberated Territories), March 23, 2015 (SPS) - a dramatic cluster BLU 63 accident took place last Thursday in the area called Zazayat which is situated 13km North-West Mijek in the liberated territories of Western Sahara.

 

According to the Saharawi Mine Actions Coordination Office (SMACO) sources in the area, the exploded blu 63 caused the death of one Sahrawi civilian shepherd called Sid Ahmed Amhamad Sidi Musa.
