CODESA expresses support for Sahrawi mother Takbar Haddi on hunger strike in Canary Islands

 El Aaiun (Occupied Territories), May 24, 2015 (SPS) The Executive Office of the Collective of Sahrawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA) expressed Sunday support and solidarity with the Saharawi mother Takbar Haddi on hunger strike for two weeks in the canary islands to demand justice for her son who was killed in February by Moroccan settlers in the occupied city of El Aaiun.

 

SADR takes part in celebrations of Africa Day in Mozambique

SADR takes part in African Conference for dialogue on human rights and justice mechanisms

 Arusha (Tanzania) 23 May, 2015 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Republic participated in the works of African Dialogue Conference on human rights and justice mechanisms, held May 18-22, in  Arusha, Tanzanian.

 

 The Conference was organized by the African Institute for International Law in cooperation with the African Court for Human and Peoples Rights, and aimed at promoting dialogue to ensure the protection of human and peoples' rights in Africa.

 

President of Republic offers condolences to family of French lawyer Francis Jacob

Danish MP denounces use of torture by Morocco

Copenhagen (Denmark) 22 May, 2015 (SPS) - Danish Member of Parliament Mr. Christian juhl, the Red- Green Alliance Party, has condemned the use of torture in prisons by Morocco, following the release of the latest reports of Amnesty international and the Norwegian Aid Organisation (SAIH) on torture and human rights violations committed by the Moroccan authorities in Morocco and the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

 

Managua Conference: Countries demand decolonisation of Western Sahara

Managua (Nicaragua) May 22, 2015 (SPS) - Many countries participating in the International Conference on Decolonization of Colonial Territories held in Managua, Nicaragua, has reiterated that the continued colonization of Western Sahara is unacceptable, calling on the United Nations for an urgent action to enable the Saharawi people to exercise their right to self-determination.

 

Sahrawi coordinator with MINURSO received by Spanish State Secretary for Foreign Affairs

Madrid, May 22, 2015(SPS) - Saharawi coordinator with MINURSO (the UN  Mission for Referendum in Western Sahara), member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front,  Emhamed Khedad, was received  Thursday in Madrid by Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Ignacio Ibáñez.

 

 The talks focused on the latest developments of the question of Western Sahara and the prospects of the peace process led by the United Nations after the adoption of the latest resolution of the Security Council, as well as bilateral relations and cooperation.

Saharawi ambassador leads African ambassadors’ delegation to outgoing Nigerian president

Abuja, May 21, 2015 (SPS) - The Saharawi Ambassador in Nigeria, Mr. Oubbi Bachir, on Wednesday led a delegation of African ambassadors as part of a courtesy visit to the outgoing President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Mr. Goodluck Jonathan.


Speaking on behalf of 42 African ambassadors, Mr. Oubbi Bachir applauded the excellent cooperation and coordination shown by President Goodluck Jonathan and his government in the recent years, praising his constant keenness to make Africa at the heart of Nigeria’s foreign policy.

Mother of Saharawi martyr Haidala gives testimony before European Parliament

Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain), May 20, 2015 (SPS) - At the invitation of MEP Miguel Urbán of Podemos Spanish Party, the Sahrawi citizen Takbar Haddi, mother of the martyr Mohamed Lamin Haidalla, is expected Wednesday to give testimony in a plenary session organized at the European Parliament.


The initiative comes after the visit by Ms. Mary Beta, General Secretary of Podemos Council, to the place where the Saharawi citizen is holding an open hunger strike in the Canary Islands.

Algerian Red Crescent responds to needs of Saharawi refugees

Algiers, May 20, 2015 (SPS) - The Algerian Red Crescent will soon send about 200 tons of potatoes in respond to the needs of the Saharawi refugee near Tindouf, Algeria, said on Wednesday the Algerian daily newspapers “Le Soir”.


ARC has often found itself alone to fulfill the needs of the Saharawi refugees, adding the same source.


It should be mentioned that the Saharawi Red Crescent has recently launched an appeal to donor countries to increase funds to avoid disruption of the existing stocks. (SPS)

Secretary General of Students’ Union on working visit to Cuba

Saharawi people mark 42th anniversary of outbreak of armed struggle tomorrow

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), May 19, 2013 (SPS) - The Saharawi people will commemorate Wednesday, May 20th, the 42-year anniversary of the outbreak of armed struggle in Western Sahara, to reiterate their commtiment and attachment to regain their legitimate rights by all means.


On this day, 20 May 1973, the Polisario Front announced the outbreak of armed struggle against the Spanish occupation, only 10 days after its creation on 10 May of the same year.

Saharawi Republic takes part at 6th ordinary session of Pan-African Parliament

SADR elected vice-president of African First Ladies Peace Mission

 Abuja, May 17, 2015 (SPS) - The summit of the African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM) has elected a new board of five members representing the regions of Africa chaired by the Republic of Sierra Leone and including the Sahrawi Republics, Congo, South Sudan and South Africa.

 

 The board which was elected for a term of two years is intended to lead the work of the organization between summits and coordinate its initiatives in the continent from its permanent headquarters in the Nigerian capital Abuja.
