“Last Colony in Africa,” new book issued in Japan

Tokyo, May 18, 2015 (SPS) - Japanese Journalist ITSUKO Hirata has issued a new book on the question of Western Sahara entitled “Last Colony in Africa,” on the occasion of the 20 May, the day of the outbreak of the armed struggle in Western Sahara in 1973 by the Polisario Front.

 

“This book is for the Japanese people to know about Western Sahara,” wrote Journalist ITSUKO Hirata in the preface of the book. "They have no idea that Western Sahara is the last colony in Africa," she added.  

 

Sahrawi mother continues hunger strike to demand justice for assassination of her son

Gran Canaria, 17/05/15 (SPS) - Sahrawi mother Tekbar Heddi has continued her hunger strike for a third day in front of the Moroccan consulate to demand revealing the circumstances surrounding  the assassination of her son Mohamed Lamine Haidala, 21, was recently stabbed to death by Moroccan settlers in the occupied city of El Aaiun.

 

The Sahrawi mother started Friday unlimited hunger strike to demand justice for the death of her son. She also called for an autopsy to be conducted.

  

Report of Amnesty International sheds light on torture in Morocco, Western Sahara

SADR takes part in 7th Friendly Cultures Fair 2015 in Mexico

 Mexico, May 16, 2015 (SPS) - The Saharawi Republic is taking part, along more than 93 embassies, in 7th Friendly Cultures Fair 2015, organized by the Federal Government of Mexico May 14 to 24, reported the SADR Embassy in Mexico.

 

 The official opening ceremony of the Fair was supervised by the Chief of Government, accompanied by ministers, the diplomatic corps accredited to the United Mexican States and Mexican civil society.

 

Saharawi Republic takes part at AU Trade Ministers’ Meeting

ASVDH meets Japanese diplomatic delegation in occupied El Aaiun

Amnesty International voices concern at France-Morocco judicial cooperation

London, May 14, 2015 (SPS) - Amnesty International (AI) on Wednesday expressed concern at the judicial cooperation between France and Morocco, underlying that French Parliament’s approval of such agreement is an attempt to keep the perpetrators of torture and crimes in Western Sahara and Morocco in total impunity.


The ONG said it will publish a report detailing cases of torture taking place in Western Sahara and Morocco next March 19th.

UESARIO holds preparatory meeting for summer program 2015

Algiers, May 14, 2015 (SPS) - The Saharawi Student Union (UESARIO) held meeting at SADR embassy in Algiers to discuss a wide range of topics, mainly to prepare for youth and students summer program 2015, in the presence of Secretary General Mulay Mhamed Brahim, members of Board and student branches in Algeria.


The discussion focused on the Summer Program, which constitutes one of the most important phases ahead, and its role in training and educating student cadres for future challenges.

UJSARIO takes part at commemoration of WFDY 70-year anniversary

New book about Saharawi poetry published in London

London, May 13, 2015 (SPS) - Influx Press has announced the publication of a new book about Saharawi poetry under the title: “Settled Wanderers” by the UK poet Sam Berkson and Saharawi writer Mohamed Sulaiman.


In a ceremony organized in London on Tuesday, author of the book Sam Berkson delivered some poems translated into English for prominent Saharawi poets, including of which “Draimiza” by poet Beibuh Ould Al-Hajj, “Tachwach” by Badi Momahed and “Gdeim Izik” by Husein Maulud.

President of Republic receives reply letter from Nigerian counterpart

Valencia (Spain), May 13, 2015 (SPS) - The mayor of the municipality of Almussafes (Valencia), Dr. Albert Girona on Tuesday reaffirmed the commitment of his commune to continue supporting the Saharawi people.


Speaking after a meeting with the Saharawi representative in Valencia Mr. Saad Elmami, the Spanish official expressed commitment of his municipality to continue working so to implement cooperation projects for the benefit of Saharawi refugees.

France, Spain responsible for status quo in Western Sahara, says Khaddad

Delegation of donor countries arrives in Saharawi refugee camps

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), May 12, 2015 (SPS) - A delegation of the donor countries arrived Tuesday in the Saharawi refugee camps, as part of a visit to assess first-hand the overall humanitarian conditions of the Saharawi refugees, and inspect the projects funded by some donor countries.


The visit comes after the appeal made by the international humanitarian agencies and organizations to send an urgent humanitarian assistance to help overcome food deficit recorded in the Saharawi refugee camps.

CONASADH deeply concerned at Security Council’s apathy towards human rights conventions

Chahid El Hafed (refugee camps), May 12, 2015 (SPS) - The Saharawi National Commission for Human Rights (CONASADH) has expressed “deep concern and regret” for UN Security Council’s apathy towards human rights charters and conventions, through refusing, in its latest resolution, to adopt a human rights mechanism in Western Sahara.
