Algerian parliamentary delegation to visit SADR

Chahid Al hafed (refugee camps), March 6, 2014 (SPS) - An Algerian parliamentary delegation, composed of 100 female parliamentarians, will visit the Saharawi refugee camps and the liberated territories of Western Sahara in the period from 9th to 11th March 2014, a Saharawi official source told SPS.

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), March 6, 2014 (SPS) - Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara, Mr. Christopher Ross, conlcuded Wednesday night on-day visit to the Saharawi refugee camps, as part of his new tour in the region to give impetus to the stalled peace process in Western Sahara.


The UN envoy held several meetings with the Polisario Front leadership, led by the President of Republic Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz.

SADR ambassador presents credentials to President of Malawi

Lilongwe, March 6, 2014 (SPS) - Mr. Salha Al-Abd presented today, Thursday, his letter of credence as an extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Saharawi Republic (SADR) in Malawi to the President of the Republic of Malawi H.E. Mrs. Joyce Banda.


The accreditation of Mr. Salha Al-Abd to the Republic of Malawi comes just days after Mr. Bah Mad was accredited to the Republic of Kenya.


The Republic of Malawi recognized the SADR since November 16the, 1994.

Saharawi prisoners start alarming hunger strike

Eit Melloul (Morocco), March 6, 2014 (SPS) - More than 40 Saharawi prisoners, incarcerated in Eit Melloul’s Prison, started as from yesterday, Wednesday, a 48-hour alarming hunger strike, said a media source from the occupied Saharawi territories.


The group launched the hunger strike as a protest to the deterioration of their conditions inside the prison, within which three Saharawi prisoners died in less than a year as a result of torture, ill-treatment and negligence.

Saharawi delegation in Geneva to demand extension of MINURSO mandate for human rights monitoring

Geneva, March 5, 2014 (SPS) - Polisario Front delegation, of which human rights activists from occupied Western Sahara, partakes in the 25th session of Human Rights Council, held in Geneva from 3rd to 28th March 2014, to urge the Security Council of the UN to extend MINURSO mandates to include the monitoring of human rights abuses carried out by Morocco in Western Sahara.

UPES signs agreement with Peruvian Journalists’ Federation

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), March 5, 2014 (SPS) - Saharawi Journalists and Writers’ Union (UPES) signed Tuesday a four-year cooperation agreement with the Federation of Journalists of Peru (FPP).


This agreement was signed at the end of a visit to the Saharawi refugee camps and liberated territories of Western Sahara by FPP’s President and deputy president of the Peruvian Council of Solidarity with the Saharawi People, Mr. Angel Sanchez Duenia, and UPES General-Secretary, Mr. Nafi Rayes.

Head of Saharawi negotiating delegation meets with Ross

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), March 5, 2014 (SPS) - Head of the Polisario Front’s delegation to the negotiations with Morocco, Mr. Khatri Addouh, met today, Wednesday, with the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara, ambassador Christopher Ross.


The meeting also attended by the two other members of the Saharawi negotiating delegation; Mr. Boukhari Ahmed, Polisario Front’s representative to the UN, and Mr. Mhamed Khaddad, in charge of the referendum,

SADR attends AU/ICRC's workshop on assistance for landmine victims

Addis Ababa, March 5, 2014 (SPS) - A Saharawi delegation participated Tuesday to the first day of the African Union Commission and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) workshop discussing status and solutions to the challenges involved in providing assistance for people injured by landmines, cluster munitions or other explosive remnants of war.

Saharawi self-determination: UN Council urged to issue binding resolutions

Stability and security in Africa need independent Saharawi state, says Nigerian ambassador

Smara (refugee camps), March 4, 2014 (SPS) - Nigeria’s ambassador in Algiers Mr. Haruna Ginsau has declared Tuesday from the Saharawi refugee camps that the security and stability in the African continent "urgently need" an independent Saharawi state.


In a reception in honour of the Nigerian delegation which arrived today in the Saharawi Republic (SADR), the Nigerian diplomat indicated that an independent Saharawi state is an urgent need for establishing security and stability in Africa.

Nigerian ministerial delegation visits Saharawi Republic

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), March 4, 2014 (SPS) - A Nigerian ministerial delegation, led by the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory Ms. Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, arrived Tuesday’s morning in the Saharawi refugee camps, as part of a solidarity visit to the Saharawi Republic (SADR).


The delegation is composed of a number of Nigerian President’s advisors for woman affairs, ambassador in Algiers, prominent female personalities, and some members of the Nigerian Relief Agency.

IUSY 30th Conference reiterates Saharawi people right to self-determination

Copenhagen (Denmark) March 3, 2014 (SPS) -  The 30th Conference of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY), concluded Sunday in Copenhagen, Denmark, adopted a motion reaffirming  the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and respect of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

 

The Congress  reelected Sahrawi Youth Union vice-president. The new leadership pledged to carry on the visit the IUSY had undertaken to the occupied territories of Western Sahara and Sahrawi refugee camps.

Algerian MFA receives UN Secretary-General Personal Envoy for Western Sahara

Algiers, March 3, 2014 (SPS) - Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ramtane Lamamra received Sunday in Algiers Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara Mr. Christopher Ross.

 

Mr. Ross is touring the region to prepare for a meeting between the Polisario Front and Morocco to revive the negotiations for the decolonization in Western Sahara.

 

The UN envoy toured the region in late January 2014. He is expected to start  a visit Tuesday in Sahrawi refugee camps, according to a Sahrawi source. (SPS)

UK continues to support self-determination of Saharawi people

Oran (Algeria), March 2, 2014 (SPS) - British ambassador to Algeria, Martyn Roper, reaffirmed Sunday in Oran, UK support to self-determination of the Sahrawi people.

 

In a statement to the press on the sidelines of a meeting in Oran on bilateral partnership program for Algerian young developers, Roper stated that "the UK has a clear position on this issue and we support the self-determination of the Sahrawi people." (SPS)
