Netherlands host seminar about Saharawi cause

Amsterdam, Feb 26, 2014 (SPS) - The Netherlands hosted last Thursday a seminar about the question of Western Sahara, in the presence of a number of Moroccans.


The seminar was organized by the Dutch Peace Movement under the title “the relationship between Western Sahara, the Netherlands and Morocco”.


This seminar was marked by the screening of the two documentaries on Western Sahara; La Badil (No Other Choice) by the British filmmaker Dominic Brown and “The Other Dakhla” by the Moroccan filmmaker Nadir Bouhmouch.

Deputy speaker and heads of committees of Saharawi Parliament elected

June 9th School (refugee camps), Feb 26, 2014 (SPS) - The Saharawi National Council (Parliament) elected yesterday, Tuesday, a deputy speaker and heads of the seven committees it is composed of.


SPS have learnt that Mr. Salama Mohamed Ameisa has been elected as deputy speaker of the Saharawi Parliament.


In its founding session held Monday, the new Saharawi National Council re-elected Mr. Khatri Addouh as a president of the Council with a majority of votes.

Timorese President reaffirms support to Saharawi cause

Dili, Feb 26, 2014 (SPS) - President of the Republic of Timor-Leste H.E. Mr. Taur Matan Ruak has reaffirmed his country’s solid support to the just cause of the Saharawi people, in a meeting held today at the presidential palace in Dili with the Saharawi ambassador Mr. Mohamed Salama Badi.

PM hails large participation of foreigners in Sahara Marathon

Smara (refugee camp), Feb 26, 2014 (SPS) - The Sahrawi Prime Minister Mr. Abdelkader Taleb Omar said to be pleased with the success of the 14th Sahara Marathon, hailing the large participation of foreigner, which shows the solidarity of the international community with the Sahrawi people.


"The marathon was a success with the large participation of foreign athletes, who were absent last year," Saharawi PM told Algerian Press Service (APS) at the closing ceremony of Sahara Marathon on Monday.

Sahara Marathon 2014: two young Algerian runners crowned

Smara (refugee camps), Feb 26, 2014 (SPS) - The 14th edition of Sahara Marathon, which took place on Monday in the Saharawi refugee camps, was marked by the distinction of two young Algerians.


The runners are Merouche Rachid and Lubna Ouchnane for a distance of 5 kilometers approximately.

Bouteflika to Saharawi President: Algeria remains fully true to decolonization of Western Sahara

Algiers, Feb 25, 2014 (SPS) - The President of Algeria H.E. Mr. Abdelaziz Bouteflika has emphasized that his country (Algeria) "will remain true and attached to the implementation of UN doctrine and decolonization of Western Sahara," urging the international community to assume its responsibility towards the situation experienced by the Saharawi people.

International community urged to act for Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination

Smara (refugee camps), Feb 25, 2014 (SPS) - “International community has to take every necessary action to enable Sahrawi people to decide freely their future,” said Mr. Mhamed Khadad, member of Polisario Front’s National Secretariat and coordinator with the United Nations Mission for Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).


In a statement to APS Khadad said “it’s high time for the international community to take every necessary action to allow Sahrawi people decide freely their future.”

President of National Council re-elected

June 9th School (Refugee Camps), February 24, 2014 - The President of the National Council, Mr. Khatri Aduh, has been re-elected with a majority of votes.

The election took place Monday at the headquarters of the council during the establishment of the members of the council elected in 2014.

The event was chaired by Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, president of the republic secretary general of the Polisario Front. (SPS)

Austrian Rainer Piedle wins medal of 14th Sahara Marathon

Smara (Sahrawi refugee camps), February 24, 2014 (SPS) - Austrian runner Rainer Piedle, taking part in the 14th edition of the Sahara Marathon organised in Sahrawi refugee camps, won Monday the medal of the marathon.

After winning, he expressed his satisfaction and promised support for the Sahrawi cause and raising awareness about it particularly in his country, Austria.

Whereas the semi Marathon won by young Sahrawi Aziz Malainin, followed by Algerian Kerziz Boudjma.  

MFA denies presence of Sahrawi delegation in Mali parallel to visit of King of Morocco

Bir Lehlu, February 23, 2014 (SPS) -The Ministry of Foreign Affairs  denied the allegations reported this week in the Moroccan media about the presence of a delegation  of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in Mali in coincidence with the visit of the King of Morocco to Bamako, in a statement issued Sunday.

Arrival in refugee camps of participants to 14th edition of Sahara Marathon

Smara (Saharawi refugee camps), February 23, 2014 (SPS) -  The participants to the 14th edition of the Sahara marathon started to arrive Saturday afternoon in the Wilaya of Smara, Saharawi refugee camps, to take part in this edition which kicks off Tuesday in the Wilaya of El Aaiun, according to organizers.

 

Runners will compete for distance of 42 km , 21 km ,10 km and 5 km, along with the festivities celebrating the 38th anniversary of SADR, added the same source.

 

ASPECF holds its second meeting in Sahrawi Refugee Camps

Awserd (Refugee Camps), February 23, 2014 (SPS) -The Sahrawi Association for the Promotion of Cultural Exchanges with the French-Speaking World (ASPECF) held Friday its second general meeting at its headquarters in Awserd, Sahrawi refugee camps, in the presence of its members and Sahrawi authorities.

 

After debating  the moral and financial reports,  the participants approved status, elected a new board and adopted an action plan.  

 

Complaints to France and UN of torture of Sahrawi political prisoner

Paris, February 23, 2014 (SPS) - The French NGO Action for the Abolition of Torture (ACAT) and lawyer Mr Joseph Breham filed Thursday two complaints to France and the UN to shed light on torture suffered by Sahrawi human rights Naama Asfari  at the hands of  the Moroccan authorities, according to the NGO.

 

Sahrawi Advisory Council urges Francois Hollande to pressure Morocco to comply with international legality

Sahrawi, Moroccan associations denounce human rights violation by Morocco

Paris (France), February 21, 2014 (SPS) - A meeting advocating the release of the Sahrawi and Moroccan political prisoners and denouncing the violation of human rights by Morocco was held Thursday in the French capital. 

 

This meeting, organized on the occasion of the 9th anti-colonial week, was devoted this year to the support of the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination.
