Pro-Saharawi people demonstration in Spain for extension of MINURSO prerogatives

Madrid (Spain), March 17, 2014 (SPS) - Demonstrations showing support to Western Sahara people were organized Saturday in Spain to call for the extension of the prerogative of MINURSO (United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara) to monitoring of human rights in occupied Saharawi territories.

 

Demonstrations supporting Saharawi people, to be staged on the 1st and 15th of each month will continue until next United Nations Security Council meeting about Western Sahara issue, late April 2014. (SPS)

Commencement of celebrations commemorating establishment of Pan-African Parliament

 Johannesburg (South Africa), March 16, 2014 (SPS) -  The events commemorating a decade of the establishment of the Pan African Parliament has commenced in Johannesburg, South African, coinciding with the Parliament’s fourth session.

AU delegation expected in Saharawi refugee camps

Shaheed Hafed, March 16, 2014 (SPS) - AU delegation led by the Commissioner for Political Affairs will begin Sunday a visit to the Saharawi refugee camps.

 

The African delegation will visit the Wilaya of Boujdour, schools, kindergartens and hospitals and will be received by members of the Saharawi Women Union (NUSW).

 

It will be recieved by the Minister of Justice, Hamada Salma, visit the headquarters of the Advisory Council and the national Museum of Resistance, according to the visit agenda of the delegation.

London, March 16, 2014 (SPS) - Western Sahara Action Forum (WSAF) Published a report entitled "crimes without a witness" on its Web site addressing violations of human rights against Saharawis Committed by the Moroccan occupation since April 2013.

 

 The report focuses on cases of torture and denial of freedom of assembly and expression reported recently and summarizes other human rights violations that continued for a long time such as banning of cultural freedom and the right to work and to benefit from the natural resources.

 

Moroccan attack against Saharawi students: several injured

 Settat (Morocco), March 16, 2014 (SPS) - A Moroccan attack against Sahrawi students at the university campus of Settat (Morocco) on Tuesday and Wednesday left several wounded, according to the Ministry of the Occupied Territories and Community Abroad.

 

 

Several Sahrawi students were transferred to hospital after an attack by Moroccan bands with batons and pointed weapons while other Sahrawis were taken to the police station for investigation.

EP reaffirms support for organization of referendum in Western Sahara

Strasbourg (France) on March 15, 2014 (SPS) – The European Parliament renewed its support to the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination through the organization of a democratic referendum in accordance with the United Nations resolutions and called on the Kingdom of Morocco to pursue negotiations to find a peaceful and lasting solution to the conflict in Western Sahara.

Total’s operations in Western Sahara under ethics probe by Norwegian wealth fund

Oslo, March 14, 2014 (SPS) - Norway’s sovereign wealth fund is examining the operations of the French oil firm Total in Western Sahara to ascertain whether its activities there are unethical, reported Wednesday Reuters.


The fund, responsible to grow revenue from the exploitation of Norwegian oil and gas reserves, manages a portfolio of more than 600 billion euros, making it one of the largest investors in the world.

Morocco pursues policy of batons against Saharawi citizens

El Aaiun (occupied territories), March 14, 2014 (SPS ) - After failing to subjugating the Saharawi people, Morocco is pursuing a policy of brutality against young Saharawi people who demonstrate peacefully to demand the right of their people to self-determination and to live in dignity.


In this context, Moroccan occupying authorities arrested Wednesday afternoon the 19-year-old Saharawi student Mohamed Lamine Alboudani in the occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara.

Angola supports just cause of Saharawi people

Luanda, March 13, 2014 (SPS) - The Vice-president of the Republic of Angola, Mr. Manuel Domingos Vicente, voiced his country´s firm support to the just cause of the Saharawi people, in a meeting held Monday with the Saharawi Ambassador Mr. Malainin Sadig.

European Parliament to dispatch fact-finding mission to occupied Western Sahara

Strasburg, March 13, 2014 (SPS) - The European Parliament decided Tuesday to send a fact-finding mission to the occupied territories of Western Sahara next April to assess at first hand the reality of human rights and Saharawis’ benefit from their country’s natural resources, revealed Mr. Mohamed Ali Zerouali, Polisario Front’s Representative to Brussels.


This mission will be composed of 7 members of the European Parliament representing different political spectrums.

Ten-year-old Saharawi boy, new victim of landmine blast

Mheiriz (liberated territories), March 13, 2014 (SPS) - Morocco’s shame wall in the Western Sahara has caused a new casualty, this time a 10-year-old Saharawi in an antipersonnel landmine blast which occurred Tuesday in the Saharawi liberated territory of Mheiriz, reported the Saharawi Association of Landmine Victims (ASAVIM).


According to the source, the ten-year boy lost one hand and fingers of the other, before being rescued by a team of Action on Armed Violence and evacuated by a helicopter.
