Sahrawi government reaffirms its commitment to fighting terrorism

Algiers, December 19, 2014 (SPS) - Ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) Brahim Ghali reaffirmed Thursday in Algiers his country’s commitment to continuing fight against terrorism, in accordance with its international commitments, affirming that the terrorist groups “are financed with the funds of drug trafficking of which Morocco is the first producer and exporter.”

 

Sahrawi National Council resumes autumn session

9 June School, December 18, 2014 (SPS) - The Sahrawi National Council resumed Wednesday the first autumn session of the ninth legislative custody.

 

The session was opened November 30, with the approval of the agenda, which includes the evaluation of the government's program and the work of the Office of the National Council, in addition to some other points addressed by the session.

 

American delegation on visit in Sahrawi refugee camps

Shaheed Elhafed (Refugee Camps), December 18, 2014 (SPS) - An American delegation started Wednesday a visit in the Sahrawi refugee camps and liberated territories of the SADR.

 

 The delegation composed of directors of newspapers and institutions of studies, filmmakers and university professors, and visited some public utilities and national institutions including the Ministry of Information. It also visited the Wilaya of Smara and the Moroccan wall of shame.

 

Foreign Minister meets with Vice President of Panama

 Panama, December 18, 2014 (SPS) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, met Tuesday with the Vice President and Foreign Minister of Panama, Isabel de Saint Malo de Alvarado.

 

 During the meeting, Mr. Ould Salek expressed the interest of the government of the Saharawi Republic to restore diplomatic relations between the two countries and reopen the Saharawi diplomatic mission in Panama.

 

The visit of the Foreign Minister in Panama is part of a tour of Latin America, it should be recalled. (SPS)

 

Africa Games 2015: SADR participate in next edition

 Algiers, December 18, 2014 (SPS) - The Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) will participate in the 11th edition of the 2015 - African Games, scheduled from 4 to 19 September, in Brazzaville, Congo, announced Monday in Algiers the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mohamed Mouloud Mohamed Fadel.

 

 This statement was made during his meeting with his Algerian counterpart, Mohamed Tahmi, who welcomed the first participation of athletes of the SADR at the next African Games in Congo.

 

Sahrawi political prisoner Yahya Mohamed Elhafed denied right to medication

 Marrakech (Morocco), December 17, 2014 (SPS) – The prison administration in Marrakech, Morocco, prevented Tuesday Sahrawi political prisoner Yahya Mohamed Elhafed from the right to medication and refused to transfer him to hospital to receive some necessary medical examinations.

 

According to Sahrawi human rights sources in the place, the prison administration refused to transfer him to hospital because he did not want to put on the prison suit for the reason that it degrades his dignity as a prisoner of opinion.

 

Moroccan police “brutally” torture young Sahrawi

 El Aaiun (Occupied Territories), December 17, 2014 (SPS) - A Moroccan police patrol arrested Monday evening in the occupied city of El Aaiun young Sahrawi, Erguibanu Lehwage, and “brutally” tortured him using sticks and batons, on the grounds of his participation in the demonstration called for by human rights organizations in the city.

 

Independence of Africa remains incomplete as long as Western Sahara is occupied, says Vice President of Mozambican parliament

9 June School (Refugee Camps), December 17, 2014 (SPS) – The Vice-President of Mozambican parliament, Lucas Chomera Jeremias, stressed Tuesday at the headquarters of the Saharawi National Council that the independence of Africa is incomplete as long as the last case of decolonization in Africa, Western Sahara is under colonial occupation.

 

 "Mozambique does not feel independent when an African country is under colonial occupation and the Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa is still occupied," said he said in a statement to the national press.

Sahrawi political prisoner Mohamed Babir starts unlimited hunger strike

El Aaiun (Occupied Territories), December 17, 2014 (SPS) – Sahrawi political prisoner Mohamed Babir initiated December 13, at local prison in Ait Meloul, Morocco, unlimited hunger strike in protest to the repeated physical assaults which he has been subjected to by the prison officials, according to Sahrawi human rights sources.  

 

Father of the Sahrawi political prisoner said he had learned from inside the prison that his son has been subjected to beating and torture by the prison officers, added the sources.

 

President of Saharawi National Council receives Vice President of Mozambican parliament

Shaheed Elhafed (Refugee Camps), December 17, 2014 (SPS) – The President of the Sahrawi National Council, Khatry Adduh, received Tuesday at the Guest house the Vice President of the Mozambican parliament, Lucas Chomera Jeremias.  

 

The meeting addressed the bilateral relations between the two countries and means to strengthen them, human rights violation committed by Morocco in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, and advocating of the Sahrawi in the world forums.

Conclusion of conference of Sahrawi journalists in Europe

Aviles, (Asturias), December 16, 2014 (SPS) – The first conference of Sahrawi journalists in Europe under the theme “Credibility, Message, Professionalism” held inAviles(Asturias), Spain, concluded Sunday following two days of deliberations.

 

The participants focused during the conference held after the name of “Mohamed Ibrahim Basiri” in their speeches on the situation of Sahrawi media and the challenges facing it.

Algiers, December 15, 2014 (SPS) -Chairman of the Algerian-Mauritanian friendship committee Mauritanian at the parliament, Mohamed Ahmed Salem Talebna, said Sunday in Algiers that the decolonization of Western Sahara in accordance with international law is "urgently needed" to achieve peace and stability in the region and the completion of the Arab Maghreb building.
