Slovenian MP values EU parliament’s decision to freeze fishing agreement with Morocco

Ljubljana, April 30, 2012 (SPS) - Vice-President of the Parliamentary Group of Solidarity with the Saharawi People in EU Parliament and Former Slovenian Foreign Minister, Mr. Ivo Vajgl, applauded the decision taken last December by the EP to freeze the fishing agreement with Morocco due to Rabat violations of human rights in Western Sahara, in a joint seminar along with POLISARIO Representative to Balkan, Mr. Malainin Bagada, broadcast by Slovenian television last week.

Council of Ministers renews call to provide protection for human rights in occupied Western Sahara

Shaheed Al Hafed (refugee camps), April 28, 2012 (SPS) - The Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara, Mr. Hany Abdel-Aziz, emphasized Saturday that the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) “is ready to accelerate the implementation of Security Council resolutions that provides for the self-determination of the Saharawi people,” in a meeting with the President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, before the end of his duties to the region.

Saharawi activist to aware about human rights of Western Sahara in Australia

Melbourne, April 28, 2012 (SPS) - The Sahrawi human rights activist Malak Amidane will visit Australia on the forthcoming May to aware about the situation of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

Malak will visit Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra and Sydney. She will meet with politicians, NGOs, trade unions leaders and press to advocate for greater support for Western Sahara. And she will also give public talks and present lectures about dire situation of human rights in occupied Western Sahara at various universities in Australia.

Western Sahara: Self-determination solution reaffirmed by the Security Council

New York (UN), April 24, 2012 (SPS) -The Security Council of the UN adopted Tuesday a resolution on Western Sahara in which it reaffirmed the solution allowing "self-determination of the Sahrawi people," while stressing the need for complete freedom of movement for MINURSO.

 

Unanimously adopted, the resolution 2204 (2012) points out that the Security Council "reaffirms its commitment to help both parties to the conflict to achieve a fair, lasting, and mutually acceptable solution, allowing the self-determination of the people of the Western Sahara."

Accra, April 23, 2012 (SPS) - The Socialist Forum of Ghana (SFG) has called on the UN Security Council to extend as a matter of urgency the mandate of MINURSO to include the monitoring of human rights in Western Sahara and to take all other measures necessary for the Saharawi people to enjoy their right to self-determination, in a letter sent on April 12, 2012 to the UN Secretary General.

Ninth edition of FiSahara on May 1-6 in Saharawi refugee camps

Madrid, April 22, 2012 (SPS) - The ninth edition of the International Film Festival in Western Sahara, known as FiSahara, presented Thursday in Madrid in the presence of its co-directors, Jose Taboada and Guillermo Toledo, and POLISARIO Representative to Madrid.

According to the organizers, the Festival will be organized from May 1st to 6, 2012 in the Wilaya of Dajla (Saharawi refugee camps), and will be attended by several international famous figures like the Spanish actress Aitana Sánchez-Gijón.
