Youth exchange programme between UESARIO and German Group

Awserd (refugee camps), April 29, 2012 (SPS) - A seven-day exchange between young people and students from the Saharawi Republic and Germany closed Saturday in the Wilaya of Awserd, under supervision of the Saharawi Student Union (UESARIO) and the German Group “Projektgruppe Westsahara”, according to the organizers.

The seven-day programme marked by the organization of several workshops and deep discussions on various issues of the common concern that face the youth including the issue of human rights, gender equality, environment, culture, citizenship, role of MINURSO in Western Sahara and situation of the Saharawi youth in the refugee camps. It was also an opportunity for the both sides to exchange experiences on the field of social action.

The encounter discussed the cooperation between UESARIO and the German group and the ways to boost it forward in the future.

The group toured June 17th School in the Wilaya of Smara and Awserd youth Centre. In addition, they held meeting with Member of the POLISARIO National Secretariat and Governor of Awserd, Mr. Salek Baba Hasana. They therefore attended cultural festivities.

The German Group has been establishing a partnership and cooperation agreement with UESARIO since April 2011, where it held various activities to aware about the Saharawi cause, especially in Germany and Europe in general, including the organization of a European caravan of solidarity with the Saharawi people in the summer of 2011, international demonstrations on April 14, 2012 in front of French embassies in several European capitals to demand the inclusion of human rights within the MINURSO mandate. In addition, an anti-racism conference will be organized in the month of August 2012. (SPS)
