Meeting between Spanish PP official and Polisario Representative to Madrid

Madrid, March 31, 2012 (SPS) - The Polisario Representative in Spain, Mr. Bashraya Hamudi Bayun, received Friday at headquarters of the Spanish Popular Party, ruling party, by its Secretary of Foreign Policy, Mr. José Ramón Garcia, according to a Saharawi diplomatic source.

France is the main obstacle to self-determination referendum in Western Sahara, says Bukhari Ahmed

Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain), March 30, 2012 (SPS) - The Polisario Front Representative to the United Nations, Bukhari Ahmed, said on Thursday that France is the "main obstacle" to a self-determination referendum in Western Sahara.

 



In an interview with Spanish newspaper "El Dia", Bukhari Ahmed has underlined “France is the main obstacle to self-determination referendum in Western Sahara more than Morocco itself", adding “it is primarily responsible for the tragedy and failure of the United Nations in Western Sahara."

 

Arrest of Saharawi human rights defender in Moroccan city of Tanger

National Council ratifies Programme for Government 2012

June 9th School (refugee camps), March30, 2012 (SPS) -The National Council (Parliament) has ratified on Thursday the Draft Programme for Government 2012  .

 

The 2012 Programme for Government sets out the priorities adopted by the Polisario Thirteenth Congress, including Intifada in the occupied territories, readiness of the People’s Liberation Army, activation of the political organization and intensification of the diplomatic and media action.

 

CEAS-Sahara launches a campaign to demand Spanish active role in defending human rights in Western Sahara

Madrid, March 29, 2012 (SPS) – The Coordination of the Spanish Associations of solidarity with the Saharawi people (CEAS-Sahara), on Wednesday launched public campaign to demand active role from Spanish government in defending human rights in Western Sahara.



In letter to the Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, José Manuel García-Margallo,  CEAS-Sahara said that the Ministry is well aware of  the cruel conditions living by the Saharawis under the Moroccan occupation.

 

Basque Parliament urges Spain to work for human rights monitoring within MINURSO mandate

Vitoria, March 29, 2012 (SPS) – the Basque Parliament has urged on the Spanish government to work within European Union for the inclusion of human rights component within functions of the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), when renewing its mandates.

 


In statement issued Thursday, Basque Parliament called on the Spanish government to contribute in achieving a last solution to the Western Sahara conflict ensures the Saharawi people’s right to self-determination.

 

Saharawi cause almost forgotten by the international community, says UN official

Rome March 27, 2012 (SPS) - The cause of the Saharawi people is almost forgotten by the international community, said Tuesday in Rome bureau chief for regional humanitarian protection from the High Commissioner for Refugees United Nations (UNHCR).

 

"I feel that the cause of the Saharawi people and the Sahrawi refugees in Tindouf (southern Algeria) is almost forgotten by the international community, "the official said in a statement to the Algerian News Agency (APS) following the visit of the delegation present in Italy as part of a study mission.

 

Aminatou Haidar gives a lecture on struggle to uphold human rights in Western Sahara at George Washington University

Washington DC, March 27 2012 (SPS) - The Saharawi human rights activist, Aminatou Haidar, gave on Tuesday at Faculty of law at George Washington University a lecture under the theme “The Struggle to Uphold Human Rights in Western Sahara.”

 


The President of the Collective of Sahrawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA) arrived in Washington DC at the invitation of GW Human Rights Law Society & the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights.

 

Ambassador Brahim Ghali praises Algerian media’s role in defending Saharawi cause

Algiers, March 27, 2012 (SPS) - Member of National secretariat of the Polisario Front and Ambassador to Algeria, Brahim Ghali, has hailed on Monday the role of the Algerian newspaper “Chaab “  (the people) in raising the awareness of the national and international public opinion on the Saharawi people struggle, During a visit to the newspaper on the occasion of the appointment of its new director.

 


Ambassador Ghali applauded the efforts of the Algerian Media to convey the Saharawi people’s voice.

Socialist International reiterates support for Saharawi people’s right to self-determination

Istanbul (Turkey), March 26, 2012 (SPS) - The Socialist International Special Committee on the Arab World has reiterated its support for the right of the Saharawi people to self determination, expressing willingness to work for democracy and human rights.

Gathered in Istanbul for its second meeting on 23-24 March 2012 to address the developments in Arab World, the Committee reaffirmed, in a final communiqué , on right of the Saharawi people to self determination as expressed by the Socialist International Council in Athens last year.
