Madrid, April 22, 2012 (SPS) - The ninth edition of the International Film Festival in Western Sahara, known as FiSahara, presented Thursday in Madrid in the presence of its co-directors, Jose Taboada and Guillermo Toledo, and POLISARIO Representative to Madrid.

According to the organizers, the Festival will be organized from May 1st to 6, 2012 in the Wilaya of Dajla (Saharawi refugee camps), and will be attended by several international famous figures like the Spanish actress Aitana Sánchez-Gijón.

At the end of the ceremony, Mexico selected to be the guest of honour of the 2012 edition of FiSahara.

It is expected that a number of international figures will take part in 2012 FiSahara, several documentary and educational films to be screened and workshops in photography and editing to be opened, the same source added.

The Festival is a platform to raise awareness of the situation of the forgotten Saharawi refugees, exiled from their native land Western Sahara for over three decades by an illegal occupation by Morocco.

This year edition boasts over 15 films from around the world. Many of them reflect themes of hope and struggle but there are also comedies, short films, animations, documentaries and some made by the Saharawi refugees. (SPS)
