Fifteenth edition of Sahara Marathon kicked off today

Smara (refugee camps), Feb 23, 2015 (SPS) - The 15th edition of Sahara Marathon, annual international sport demonstration, on Tuesday kicked off in the Saharawi refugee camps, with the participation of 580 Saharawi and international runners from 30 countries in the world.


The Marathon started from the Wilaya of El Aaiun towards Smara, Saharawi refugee camps.


This year’s edition is dedicated to shedding light on the Saharawi children’s rights.

Peaceful demonstration in occupied Smara demanding Saharawi people’s self-determination

Smara (occupied territories), Feb 23, 2015 (SPS) - Dozens Saharawi civilians on Sunday poured into the streets of the occupied city of Smara to demand right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.


The demonstrators also condemned Crans Montana Forum’s decision to hold its next session in the occupied city of Dajla, denouncing the pillaging of Saharawi natural resources by Kosmos Energy and several other foreign companies in total collusion with Moroccan occupying state.

Saharawi political prisoner Mbarek Daodi to enter hunger strike in protest of Crans Montana Forum

Sale (Rabat), Feb 23, 2015 (SPS) - The Saharawi political prisoner, Mbarek Daoudi, has decided to enter a new open-ended hunger strike as from March 1st in protest of Crans Montana Forum’s intention to hold its annual seminar in the occupied Saharawi city of Dajla.


Mbarek Dadoudi, waiting to be tried since 2013, aims through his hunger strike to show his rejection to the holding of the Crans Montana Forum.

Minister of Public Health receives WHO representative in Algeria

Chahid El Hafed (refugee camps), Feb 22, 2015 (SPS) - The Minister of Public Health, Mr. Mohamed Lamin Daddi, received Sunday at his office in Chahid Al Hafed, Saharawi refugee camps, the representative of World Health Organization (WHO) in Algeria, Bah Keita.


The audience was attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, Mohamed Sidahmed, health director in Spain, Mohamed Fadel, and the person in charge of communicable and non-communicable diseases, Ms. Khalifi.

Algerian President receives Christopher Ross

Algiers, Feb 22, 2015 (SPS) - President of the People’s Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelaziz Bouteflika, received Sunday in Algiers the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara, Mr. Christopher Ross, who is on a visit to Algeria as part of a tour in the region.


The meeting was attended by Algeria Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ramtane Lamamra and Minister for Maghreb and African Affairs, Mr. Abdelkader Messahel. (SPS)

French association deplores honoring of Moroccan torturer in Paris

UN Personal Envoy for Western Sahara received by Algerian Premier

Algiers, Feb 22, 2015 (SPS) - UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Mr. Christopher Ross, on Sunday received in Algiers by Algeria Prime Minister, Mr. Abdelmalek Sellal, Prime Minister’s office announced.


At this meeting, the two sides “assessed the process of settlement of the Western Sahara issue in accordance with international law,” said the source.

Governor of Awserd praises Not Forgotten International’s work in Saharawi refugee camps

Moroccan authorities expel Canary activists from occupied Dajla

Dajla (occupied territories), Feb 22, 2015 (SPS) - The Moroccan occupying authorities on Saturday expelled four Canary Island’s activists from the occupied Saharawi city of Dajla, said Canary Association of Solidarity with the Saharawi People.


The group, composed of Patricia Gutiérrez, Luz María Rodríguez, Juan Francisco and Pedro Santana, was intended to inquire about the situation of human rights and provide training for Saharawi activists in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

WSAF starts campaign for incorporation of human rights component within MINURSO

London, Feb 22, 2015 (SPS) - The Western Sahara Action Forum (WSAF) on Thursday began a campaign pressurizing the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibility to supervise a free and fair referendum that will allow the Sahrawi people to express their inalienable right to self-determination.


With the annual renewal of its mandate due in April, WSAF wants to call on the MINURSO (UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara) to keep the peace by protecting the Sahrawis from human rights abuses.

Cooperation Minister denounces Spain’s double-standard policy on Saharawi issue

RFK Center highlights serious Moroccan violations of human rights against Saharawis

Washington D.C., Feb 21, 2015 (SPS) - The U.S. Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights on Thursday announced the release of a periodic report that tracks human rights violations that took place in Western Sahara between March and December 2014.


The US ONG noted that Moroccan authorities are continuing to commit serious human rights violations against the Sahrawi people, lamenting for the fact that there is no international mechanism within MINURSO mandate dedicated to tracking human rights in Western Sahara.

Saharawi female parliamentarians deplore criminal act against Lala Al-Mosawi

The statement expressed “unconditional solidarity” with Lala Al-Mosawi, appealing to conscious people around the globe to put pressure on the Moroccan Kingdom so to halt its repeated violations of human rights against the Saharawi people.

Council of Ministers hails Algeria’s principled position on Saharawi issue

In a communiqué concluded its meeting, the Council highlighted the level of the relations of brotherhood, friendship and cooperation happily exist between the two brotherly people in Algeria and the Saharawi Republic (SADR).
