Berne (Switzerland), Feb 20, 2015 (SPS) - The World March of Women (WMW) has as from Wednesday, February 18th, launched a journey of solidarity with Saharawi women, through which they call on the UN, human rights agencies and world governments to mobilize so to end the suffering of the people of Western Sahara, annexed since 1975 by Morocco.
WMW called, in a statement published in their website, for the need to hold, as soon as possible, the referendum on the future of Western Sahara, in accordance with the agreements signed in 1991 (Resolution No. 690) of the United Nations (UN).
It also asked Moroccan government to release the Saharawi political prisoners, stop the looting of Western Sahara natural resources and implement the right to self-determination of the Saharawi people.
The statement requested that all nations recognize the right to self-determination of the Sahrawi people and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).
WMW has planned to send several letters to the UN, human rights agencies and governments of the world to demand the recognition of the Saharawi Republic (SADR) and the implementation of the referendum promised in 1991.
It will also send other messages of solidarity to the National Union of Saharawi Women (UNMS) on the occasion of their 7th congress, to be held in the Saharawi refugee camps from 3 to 5 April 2015.
The event will also include the organization of demonstrations outside Moroccan embassies in various countries of the world. (SPS)
