Namibia reiterates support for legitimate struggle of Saharawi people for independence

 Windhoek, February 16, 2015 (SPS) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Namibia, Ms. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has reaffirmed his country's support for the just struggle of the Saharawi people for freedom and independence during his reception to the SADR ambassador, Malainin Sadik, said a statement of the Saharawi Embassy in Namibia.

 

Responsibility lies with UN to end tragedy of Saharawi people

 Bern (Switzerland), February 15, 2015 (SPS) - A delegation of the Frente POLISARIO led by Omar Mansur, a member of the National Secretariat of the Frente POLISARIO, the representative in France, and Omema Mahmoud, Frente POLISARIO representative in Switzerland, participated Saturday in the preparatory Congress of the Swiss Socialist Party for the upcoming elections in Switzerland.  

 

According to a press release of the representation in Switzerland, the delegation held meetings on the sidelines of the conference with different personalities of the party.

Sahrawi demonstrators attacked in occupied Smara

 Smara (Occupied Territories), February 15, 2015 (SPS) – Sahrawi demonstrators were “violently” attacked by Moroccan occupation forces, following a sit-in that they organized in Tantan neighborhood in the occupied city of Smara, according to the Ministry of Occupied Territories and Community Abroad.

 

The Moroccan police forces used various repressive tools against the demonstrators, injuring some of them with varying degrees of severity, at least two of which were transferred to hospital.

UN envoy Christopher Ross starts trip to Sahrawi refugee camps

Shaheed Elhafed (Refugee Camps) – UN Secretary General envoy for Western Sahara Christopher Ross arrived Saturday Shaheed Elhafed, (Saharawi refugee camps) as part of a three-day visit.

 

During his visit, the UN envoy is scheduled to meet with Sahrawi President, Mohamed Abdelaziz, and members of the Saharawi delegation in charge of the negotiations and the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front.

Western Sahara: Christopher Ross starts trip to the region

New York (United Nations), February 13, 2015 (SPS) - UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for Western Sahara Christopher Ross began Wednesday a trip to the region, the first stage of which is Moroccan capital, Rabat, UN deputy spokesman Farhan Haq has announced.

 

Ross will hold talks with Morocco and the Polisario Front as well as the neighbouring states," the AFP cited the UN spokesman as saying.

 

AWSA condemns Crans Montana Forum's decision to hold its seminar in occupied Dajla

Canberra, Feb 12, 2015 (SPS) - The Australian Western Sahara Association (AWSA) has condemned the decision made by the Swiss NGO “Crans Montana Forum” to hold its annual seminar in the occupied Saharawi city of Dajla, adding it undermines the efforts being undertaken by the international community to resolve the conflict in Western Sahara.


In a letter addressed to the Forum’s board, AWSA said that such move will violate the fundamental ethical norms and is surely contrary to the commitment of the Crans Montana Forum.

Ross visits the region to prepare for new round of negotiations, says Khaddad

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Feb 12, 2015 (SPS) - The Saharawi Coordinator with the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), Mr. Mhamed Khaddad, on Thursday said that Ross’s visit to the region comes within the context of the shuttled tours he initiated to prepare for a new round of negotiations between the Polisario Front and Morocco.

President of Republic supervises inauguration of soap factory

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Feb 12, 2015 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, on Thursday oversaw the inauguration of soap factory in the Saharawi refugee camps.


Speaking at the celebration, President Mohamed Abdelaziz thanked all partners, of which the UNHCR, ECHO and Triangle, underscoring the importance of such an initiative to contributing in the alleviation of Saharawi refugees’ suffering.

President of Republic felicitates Iranian counterpart

Bir Lehlou (liberated zones), Feb 11, 2015 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz, on Wednesday sent a letter of congratulation his Iranian counterpart, Mr. Hassan Rouhani, on the celebrations marking the 36th anniversary of the triumph of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.


The letter stated that such event was “a culmination of long years of struggle and resistance, through which the Iranian people demonstrated the best examples of steadfastness and sacrifice.”

Algeria Council of Nation, German Parliament underline need for Sahrawi people’s self determination

Algiers, Feb 11, 2015 (SPS) - Members of the Algerian Council of Nation (Upper House of Parliament) and a delegation of the German parliament (Bundestag) underlined Tuesday the necessity to continue the efforts for the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination, said the Algeria Upper House in a communiqué.


This announcement was made during a meeting held Tuesday in Algiers attended by members of the Algerian Council of Nation and a delegation of the friendly group with the Maghreb countries at the Bundestag. (SPS)

Saharawi NGO protests against holding of Grans Montan Forum in occupied Dajla

El Aaiun (Occupied Territories), February 11, 2015 (SPS) - The Centre for the Protection of Collective Memory in Western Sahara on Tuesday sent a letter to Crans Montana Forum President, in which it called him to stand neutral on the Western Sahara issue, still registered in the UN list of non-self-autonomous territory.


The letter recalled the opinion of UN Legal Counsel Hans Corell which states that any exploitation of Western Sahara natural resources will be in violation of international law.

Western Sahara Resource Watch Chair to visit Saharawi refugee camps

Chahid Al hafed (refugee camps), Feb 10, 2015 (SPS) - Chair of the Western Sahara Resource Watch (WSRW), Mr. Erik Hagen, will begin Thursday a visit to the Saharawi refugee camps.


During his stay in the camps, Mr. Hagen will deliver a workshop jointly organized by the Saharawi students and youth unions.


He will also hold talks with Mr. Mhamed Khaddad, Saharawi Coordinator with the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).

Council of Ministers renews rejection of Morocco’s looting of Saharawi wealth

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Feb 2, 2015 (SPS) - The Council of Ministers on Tuesday reiterated rejection of the Saharawi people to the Moroccan looting of Western Sahara natural resources, denouncing the drilling operations being carried out by the U.S. company Kosmos Energy off the territory’s coasts.
