CBC sheds light on Saharawi protests against natural resources plunder by foreign companies

Canada, May 14, 2015 (SPS) - The Canadian television CBC on Monday published an article shedding light on the protests staged by the Saharawi people against foreign companies that illegally extract or purchase mineral resources from Western Sahara, occupied by Morocco since 1975.

This article was published after a group of Newfoundland nuns, who have shares in PotashCorp, issued a resolution asking the before-mentioned company to review its stance on importing phosphate from Western Sahara, since it is contrary to the interests and wishes of the Saharawi people.

The TV Channel published several photos and videos about demonstrations that took in the Saharawi refugee camps as part of the national campaign “No to the Looting of natural Resources in Occupied Western Sahara”.

It also highlighted the legal status of Western Sahara and UN stance on the issue, let alone the many reports on human rights violations by international organizations.

It is to be noted that the campaign was launched last February by the Saharawi civil society, as a form of protest to the involvement of some foreign companies in the pillaging of Western Sahara natural resources, without the consent of the Saharawi people. (SPS)
