Governor of El Aaiun on working visit to Spain

Asturias (Spain), Jan 29, 2014 (SPS) - Governor of the Wilaya of El Aaiun Mr. Hamma Mohamed Salem started as from last Monday a working visit to the region of Asurias, Spain.


The Saharawi official is accompanied by Mr. Yahya Mohamed Cheikh, vice-Polisario Front’s representative in the region.


Governor Hamma was received at the Municipality of Avilés by its Mayor Mrs. Pilar Varela Díaz, along with representatives of the political parties and civil society of Asturias.

Morocco’s torture and prisons will not end up Saharawis determination to obtain independence, says Brahim Ghali

Algiers, Jan 29, 2014 (SPS) - "Morocco’s torture, prisons, and unfair trials will not end up the Saharawi people’s determination to wrest independence," said the Saharawi Ambassador in Algeria Mr. Brahim Ghali, in an act of solidarity with Saharawi people organized Tuesday in Algiers by the Rally for Algerian Hope Party.


"We confirm to Morocco and those who support it that the Saharawi people are determined to wrest their independence and make any sacrifice to achieve their goal," stated Mr. Brahim Ghali.

President of Republic in Addis Ababa for African Union Summit

Addis Ababa, Jan 29, 2014 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz arrived this morning in Addis Ababa, capital of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, ahead of the 22nd Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, to be held in Addis Ababa on 30-31 January, 2014.

TAJ President Amar Ghoul calls for standing by Saharawi people’s side

Algiers, Jan 28, 2014 (SPS) - President of the Rally for Algeria Hope (TAJ) Mr. Amar Ghoul called on the international organizations and people of conscience to stand, with their strongest term, by the side of Saharawi people, underscoring the right of the Saharawi people to freedom and independence.


“It is high time for everybody to stand bravely so to put an end to the suffering of Saharawi people,” said Mr. Ghoul, in a statement to the press during an act of solidarity organized by the Rally of Algerian Hope.

SADR signs several OAU/AU’s treaties, conventions and protocols

Addis Ababa, Jan 28, 2014 (SPS) - The Saharawi Republic (SADR) has submitted through the AU Department of Legal Affairs a range of treaties, conventions and protocols of the African Unity Organization and African Union.


Following is a list of the treaties, agreements and protocols signed by SADR:


1- The African Nuclear Weapon-Free-Zone Treaty (Pelindaba Treaty), which was adopted in Cairo (Egypt) on April 11th, 1996.

Algeria, Ethiopia for UN efforts to find settlement to Western Sahara conflict

Addis Ababa, Jan 28, 2014 (SPS) - Algeria and Ethiopia has expressed support to the efforts undertaken by the UN Secretary General and his Personal Envoy for Western Sahara Mr. Christopher Ross, which aims to find a settlement to the Western Sahara conflict providing for the Saharawi people’s right to self-determination.

Peaceful demonstration demanding human rights monitoring in occupied Smara

Smara (Occupied territories), January 27, 2014 (SPS) -  Sahrawi citizens in the occupied city of Smara organized  Saturday a peaceful demonstration in Shaheed Saeed Dembar neighborhood, calling for the expansion of the prerogatives of MINURSO to include human rights monitoring in the occupied territories of Western Sahara,  according to the Ministry of the Occupied Territories and Community Abroad.

 

The demonstrators also called for enabling  the Saharawi people to its right of  self -determination through a free and democratic referendum.

 

Saharawi political prisoner Abdeslam Loumadi on unlimited hunger strike

El Aaiun (Occupied Territories), January 26, 2014 (SPS) - Saharawi political prisoner Abdeslam Loumadi started Saturday an unlimited hunger strike at the Carcel Negra jail in El Aaiun (occupied territories of Western Sahara), in protest of the mistreatment he underwent in police stations.

 

Abdeslam Loumadi demands the opening of an inquiry into the torture he has been subjected to and the rape threats he has received.

 

He also requests to be transferred to a jail including Saharawi political prisoners.

 

RFKennedy Center urges Security Council to include human rights monitoring in MINURSO

Washington (United states), January 26, 2014 (SPS) - The chairman of Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights, Kerry Kennedy, has called on the UN Security Council to include, in 2014, human rights monitoring prerogative in the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).

 

In an article published by the website of the US news TV channel CNN, Kennedy called on the United Nations Security Council, which is to meet in April to discuss the issue of occupied Western Sahara.

 

We must fight together to ensure that Morocco respect UN resolution in Western Sahara, says Ghanian official

Accra, Jan 25, 2014 (SPS) - Editor of the Ghanaian newspaper “Daily Graphic” Mr Ransford Tetteh indicated Friday that everybody must “jointly fight together to ensure that Morocco respected the UN resolution so that all of us can contribute to the development of our continent.”


In a visit by the Saharawi Ambassador in Ghana Mr. Mahjub Sidina to the Daily Graphic’s headquarters, the Editor Mr. Ransford Tetteh said the world had become a global village where what was happening in Saharawi Republic should be of concern to all.”

Christopher Ross received by Mauritanian Prime Minister

President of Republic receives UN Secretary-General Personal Envoy for Western Sahara

Shaheed El Hafed, January 23, 2014 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary- General of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz,  received Thursday evening the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Mr. Christopher Ross.

 

During the meeting, the President of the Republic reiterated the readiness of the Polisario Front to boost the negotiations forward  in order to achieve the self-determination of the Saharawi people through free, just and fair referendum.
