Addis Ababa, Jan 28, 2014 (SPS) - The Saharawi Republic (SADR) has submitted through the AU Department of Legal Affairs a range of treaties, conventions and protocols of the African Unity Organization and African Union.
Following is a list of the treaties, agreements and protocols signed by SADR:
1- The African Nuclear Weapon-Free-Zone Treaty (Pelindaba Treaty), which was adopted in Cairo (Egypt) on April 11th, 1996.
2- Protocol to the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights on the Establishment of an African Court on Human and People’s Rights, adopted in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) on June 9th, 1998.
3- The African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption, adopted in Maputo (Mozambique) on July11th, 2003.
4- Protocol to the OAU Convention on the Prevention and Combating of Terrorism, adopted in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) on July 8th, 2004.
5- The African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance, adopted in Addis Ababa on January 30th, 2007.
6- The African Union Convention for the Protection and Assistance of Internally Displaced Persons in Africa (Kampala Convention), adopted in Kampala (Uganda) on October 23rd, 2009.
African Union Department of Legal Affairs expressed thanks and gratitude for the efforts undertaken by the Saharawi Republic (SADR) to accelerate the ratification of AU/OAU’s treaties, adding that this “reflects its commitment to continue to fulfill its obligations as a founding member of the African Union.”
Following the endorsement by the Saharawi National Council (Parliament) of the aforementioned treaties, conventions and protocols, the President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Polisario Front Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz issued a presidential decree providing for their ratification. (SPS)
