Shaheed El Hafed ( Saharawi refugee camps), January 24, 2014 (SPS) - The Sahrawi President Mohamed Abdelaziz, on Thursday called on the UN to take the necessary steps to implement the commitments of Western Sahara decolonization, allowing the Saharawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and independence through the urgent organization of a free and fair referendum.
The Polisario Front "expressed to Christopher Ross its concerns over human rights abuse in the occupied territories of Western Sahara," said Mohamed Abdelaziz in a statement to the press at the end of his meeting with Personal Envoy of UN Secretary General, Christopher Ross, after his visit to the Saharawi refugee camps as part of a new tour in the region.
On this occasion, he stressed "the practices of Morocco mentioning the unfair trials of Sahrawi civilians claiming compliance with the UN decisions through the organization of free and democratic referendum guaranteeing the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination."
RASD President requested from Christopher Ross to transmit to the UN Secretary General and to the Security Council a message in which he called for " more attention to end the sufferings of the Saharawi people because of the colonization of Western Sahara by Morocco and its impacts on the region’s peace and stability," reaffirming the availability of the Polisario Front to cooperate and to work seriously to end this problem.
