University of Granada hosts awareness seminar on Western Sahara

Granada (Spain), Nov 20, 2014 (SPS) - Granada University’s Faculty of Social Sciences hosts in the period from 18 to 20 November 2014 an awareness seminar on Western Sahara under the title “woman and human rights”.


Organized by the Association of Friends of the Saharawi people in Granada, the seminar focuses on the struggle waged by Saharawi women and the violations of human rights, being committed by Morocco in occupied Western Sahara.

President of Republic receives US delegation to 9th Interfaith Dialogue

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Nov 20, 2014 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz on Wednesday evening received at the Presidency of the Republic the U.S. delegation that took part at the 9th Interfaith Dialogue for Peace.


The meeting focused on the topics discussed in the Dialogue and its role to reflect the spirit of tolerance and love binding humankind and to promote the values of sympathy and solidarity with oppressed people.

Trial of Saharawi political prisoners postponed to 10 December

El Aaiun (occupied territories), Nov 19, 2014 (SPS) - The so-called Moroccan Court of Appeal in the occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara, on Wednesday delayed to 10 December 2014 the trial of two Saharawi political prisoners, said a statement of CODESA.


The two prisoners are; Mahmud Al-Heisan, blogger and journalist, and Abdelkarim Bouchalga, political prisoner.


The same court delayed the trial of the group for the second time in less than 15 days.

Uruguay renews support to self-determination of Saharawi people

Montevideo, Nov 19, 2014 (SPS) - Foreign Affairs Minister of Uruguay, Dr. Luis Almagro, reiterated his country’s support to the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination, during the presentation of a book entitled “Voice of the Wind,” said Wednesday Algerian Press Service (APS).


Mr. Almagro stated that Uruguay called, within the Human Rights Council, to incorporate the protection and monitoring of human rights in occupied Western Sahara into the prerogatives of MINURSO.

Spain can help a lot in finding peaceful solution to Western Sahara conflict, says Aminatou Haidar

Lanzarote (Canary Islands, Spain), Nov 19, 2014 (SPS) - Saharawi Activist and President of the Collective of Saharawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA), Aminatou Haidar, on Tuesday told reporters that by assuming a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council, Spain “could help a lot in the search for a peaceful solution to the conflict of Western Sahara.”


The activist indicated that the situation of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara “is increasingly deteriorating.”

PM hails role of Interfaith Dialogue in defending Saharawi cause

Boujdour (refugee camps), Nov 18, 2014 (SPS) - Prime Minister, Abdelkader Taleb Omar, on Tuesday evening praised the role played by the Interfaith Dialogue for Peace, annually hosted by the Saharawi refugee camps, in defending the national cause at the level of international forums.


Concluding the Dialogue, the Minister expressed, on behalf of the Saharawi government, deep thanks and appreciation for the participants for bearing the burden of travel to be in the Saharawi refugee camps.

Ninth Interfaith Dialogue for Peace concludes its work

Boujdour (refugee camps), Nov 18, 2014 (SPS) - The 9th Interfaith Dialogue for Peace, held on 16-18 November under the theme “Prophet Yunus in Islam and Christianity”, on Tuesday evening concluded its work in the Wilaya of Boujdour, Saharawi refugee camps.


In a final communiqué issued at the end of the Dialogue, participants denounced Morocco’s grave violations of human rights perpetuated in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

US Congress well-informed about ongoing suffering of Saharawi people, says Janet

Boujdour (refugee camps), Nov 18, 2014 (SPS) - Head of the US delegation to the 9th Religions’ Dialogue for Peace, Ms. Janet Lenz, on Sunday said that the U.S. Congress “is well-informed about the ongoing suffering of the Saharawi people in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, especially Morocco’s violations of human rights.”


Addressing the opening ceremony of the Dialogue, Ms. Lenz voiced strong support to the Saharawi cause, hoping that the Saharawi people will one day enjoy freedom and independence.

Wilaya of Boujdour hosts 9th edition of Religions’ Dialogue for Peace

Boujdour (refugee camps), Nov 18, 2014 (SPS) - The Wilaya of Boujdour hosts the ninth edition of the Religions’ Dialogue for Peace, which is to be concluded Tuesday under the theme “Prophet Yunus in the Holy Books”.


The conference is attended by Imams, Cheihks and scholars from Algeria, Mauritania and from the Saharawi Republic (SADR), in addition to priests and researchers from the United States of America.


At least 12 lectures were presented at the Dialogue.

Demonstration in occupied city of Boujdour against presence of Kosmos Energy Company

Pierre Galand urges international community to adopt "coherent" policy towards Saharawi issue

Demonstration in Spain calling for independence of Western Sahara

Madrid, November 17, 2014 (SPS) - Thousands of demonstrators in Madrid Sunday called for a vote on independence for Western Sahara, occupied by Morocco since 1975.

 

Protesters took to the streets to "ask the Spanish government to intervene to help Sahrawis to be able to vote to decide" their status, according to Jose Taboada, President of the Spanish Coordination of Associations of Solidarity with Western Sahara, which organized the event.

Repression in El Aaiun: at least 10 people seriously injured

39th EUCOCO: Security Council, EU called upon to mete out sanctions against Morocco (final statement)
