Khaddad denounces Morocco’s “total intransigence” towards international legality

Madrid (Spain), November 16, 2014 (SPS) - Sahrawi coordinator at the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) Mohamed Khaddad denounced, in Madrid, Morocco’s “total intransigence” towards the international legality.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 39th European Conference of Support and Solidarity with the Sahrawi People (EUCOCO), Khaddad said that “the United Nation Security Council was clear in its resolutions, by supporting the special envoy of UN secretary general for Western Sahara Christopher Ross and the continuation of negotiations to reach a solution which respects the right of Sahrawi people to self-determination.”

“But Morocco refuses since 2012 the negotiations and to cooperate with the United Nations. It has adopted a procrastination policy and continues to hinder the efforts to find a settlement to the conflict,” he lamented.

Khaddad also denounced the blackmail of Morocco which threatens to withdraw from MINURSO. “Not only it blocks the political solution, it anticipates the possibility of a resumption of hostilities,” he said.

In such a situation, he called on the United Nations “to urgently act for the resumption of the process (of negotiations) move towards a political solution.” (SPS)
