Foreign Relations Committee of Croatian Parliament expresses support for Saharawi people’s right to self-determination

Zagreb, May 31, 2014 (SPS) - The Vice Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Croatian Parliament and Chairman of the European Affairs Committee, Mr. Frano Matusic, expressed Thursday support for the right of self-determination of the Saharawi people, during his reception to the Representative of the Polisario Front, Mr. Malainin Bagada.

 

Mr. Matusic also affirmed that Croatia is committed to the respect for human rights in Western Sahara in accordance with the resolutions of the European Parliament.

 

Kenyan President reiterates support to Saharawi people’s right to self-determination

Nairobi (Kenya), 31 May 2014 (SPS) - President of Kenya Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta reaffirmed support to the Saharawi people and their just cause, highlighting that Kenya's position is consistent with the requirements of International Law and resolutions of the African Union, in regard to the decolonization issue in the Western Sahara.

Lamine Baali, and members of the Saharawi mission in Addis Ababa and Saharawi community in Ethiopia, attended a reception organized by the Mauritanian Embassy, Sunday, in commemoration of the 51st anniversary of the OAU/AU, at the Multipurpose Hall in the AU Headquarters.

 

President of Republic arrives in El Salvador to attend President-elect investiture

San Salvador (El Salvador),May 30, 2014 (SPS) - President of the Republic Secretary-General of the Polisario Front Mohamed Abdelaziz arrived Friday in San Salvador, El Salvador, at an official invitation from the current President of El Salvador, Mr. Mauricio Funes, to attend the investiture ceremony of the new president-elect, Mr. Salvador Sanchez Ceren, along with dozens of world heads of State and Government and delegations.  

 

New Sahrawi ambassador to Kenya presents his credentials to Uhuru Kenyatta

Nairobi (Kenya), May 30, 2014 (SPS) - The new Ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic to Kenya, Mr. Abah Almed Abdallah, presented Thursday his credentials as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

 

During the ceremony which took place in the presidential palace, President Uhuru Kenyatta reiterated the support of Kenya to the Sahrawi people and their just cause in line with the international law and resolutions of the African Union as a decolonization problem which has to be completed.

 

Personal Envoy of President of Republic received by Mauritanian President

Nouakchott, 30 May 2014 (SPS) - Personal Envoy of the President of the Republic Mr. Mhammed Khadad was received Thursday by the President of the Republic of Mauritania, Mr. Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz, at the presidential palace in Nouakchott.  

 

The meeting was in the framework of consultations conducted by the Sahrawi Republic with its Mauritanian counterpart as the rotating president of the African Union as well as to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries.

 

Norwegian delegation visits occupied Western Sahara

The delegation composed of Ingrid Hodnebo, Government Chief Executive Officer at Norway Supreme Court, and Anne Museng Knutsen, first counselor to North Africa department.

Saharawi rights associations meet with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

Rabat, May 29, 2014 (SPS) - Representatives of the committee of families of Gdeim Izik detainees and the association for the protection of Saharawi prisoners in Moroccan prisons met Wednesday with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navanethem Pillay, in Rabat.


Attended by the Saharawi activists Al-Mashdufi Mustafa and Abdelrahman Zayu, the meeting focused on the condition of health of Gdeim Izik detainees and the policy of procrastination pursued by the Moroccan state against them.

President Mohamed Abdelaziz granted honorary doctorate of human rights

June 9th School (refugee camps), May 28, 2014 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz granted Wednesday an honorary doctorate of human rights from the Logos De Colombia University in the U.S.A.


The doctorate was presented by the Dean of Logos University Dr. Edgar Eduardo Prada, in a ceremony organized Tuesday at the headquarters of the Saharawi National Council (parliament).

Saharawi political prisoner sentenced to five years in prison

Agadir (Morocco), May 27, 2014 (SPS) - The Saharawi political prisoner El-Haiba Moulay Kaiss unfairly sentenced Monday by the Moroccan Court of Appeal in the city of Agadir to five years in prison, said Saharawi rights sources.


The judgment against El-Haiba is the harshest one in a series of sentences pronounced against a group of Saharawi political prisoners, arrested in Guleimim after their participation in demonstrations in protest to the assassination of Rachid Chain in September 2013. (SPS)

Algeria FM hails NAM’s commitment to Saharawi people’s right to self-determination

Algiers, May 27, 2014 (SPS) - Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ramtane Lamamra hailed the commitment of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination in accordance with international legitimacy and UN principles.


Speaking on Monday during the opening ceremony of the 17th Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement, Mr. Lamamra indicated that the event is a message of hope and revival, in faithfulness to the movement’s Afro-Asian and third-world principles.

Saharawi National Council approves Mining Law

The mining draft law was under examination by the Council’s economic committee in consultation with the executive body, actors and legal experts.

AU Peace and Security Council marks 10th anniversary

Addis Ababa, May 27, 2014 (SPS) - As part of the closing ceremony of the year-long celebrations of 50th OAU/AU anniversary, the Peace and Security Council of the African Union commemorated Sunday its 10th anniversary at the Nelson Mandela Hall of the new Conference Building in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia.


Several festivities took place to mark the occasion, of which an open meeting that brought together all member states of the African Union, representatives of the embassies and organizations accredited to the AU.

Adala UK : Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan prisons face prospect of slow, painful death

London, May 26, 2014 (SPS) - The British ONG Adala UK confirmed in a recent report that “Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan prisons face the prospect of a slow, painful death given the deliberate medical negligence enforced by the prison authorities. Most detainees suffer severe health issues given the terrible conditions they are living in”.  

 

Zimbabwe reiterates support of Sahrawi people’s right
