Gathering outside Moroccan embassy in Tshwane to protest illegal occupation of Western Sahara

Tshwane, Pretoria (South Africa), Oct 6, 2012 (SPS) - Thousands of South African workers, including members of WFTY, gathered Wednesday outside Morocco’s embassy in Tshwane in Pretoria, South Africa, to register their “serious protest and indignation” at Morocco’s continued illegal occupation of Western Sahara.


The demonstration was held on the International Day of Action of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU).

U.S. Department of State criticizes Morocco’s human rights violations in Western Sahara

Washington, Oct 6, 2012 (SPS) - The U.S. Department of State has sent a report to the Congress criticizing Morocco’s human rights violations in Western Sahara, confirming that the situation was a matter of “serious concern.”
The report, a copy of it obtained by SPS, was developed by the U.S. Department of State in line with a law passed on December 2011 by the U.S. Congress, which asked the Department of State to ensure respect for human rights in Western Sahara before providing any military assistance to Morocco.

Parliament of Aragon requires respect for Saharawi human rights in any agreement between Morocco and EU

Madrid, Oct 5, 2012 (SPS) - The Parliament of Aragon’s Spanish Province approved Thursday a motion, in which it insisted on the need to require the respect for human rights in Western Sahara by Morocco in any new agreement between Morocco and European Union, informed POLISARIO Office in Aragon.


Serious and in-depth discussions between the political parties were occurred at Aragon’s Parliament hall on the economic relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the European Union, with regard to Western Sahara fisheries.

Western Sahara on agenda of UN Decolonization Committee

New York, Oct 5, 2012 (SPS) - The UN Special Committee on Decolonization (also known as Fourth Committee or C-24) unanimously approved Thursday its work programme for the current session, which contains the question of the decolonization of Western Sahara, confirmed the United Nations.


The Committee would first consider a collection of items relating to decolonization of 16 non-self-governing territories and peoples, including Western Sahara, during a general debate from 8 to 15 October.

Families of Saharawi political prisoners organize peaceful demonstration in occupied Dakhla

The Saharawi families strongly condemned the violent assault committed by the warden of the Moroccan Black jail (occupied city of  El Aaiun) against their sons.

Dili, Oct 03, 2012 (SPS) - The President of Parliament of East Timor, Vicente da Silva Guterres on Wednesday reiterated the support of all political parties in his country for the just cause of the Saharawi people, according to statement of SADR embassy in Dili.

 

During a meeting with Ambassador of the Saharawi Republic, Mohamed Salama Badi headquarters in Parliament in Dili, Mr. Vicente da Silva Guterres expressed the consensus of all parties in Parliament of Timor to support the cause of the Saharawi people.

 

Saharawi political prisoners begin 24 hours hunger strike

Sale (Morocco), Oct 03, 2012 (SPS) - Saharawi political prisoners incarcerated in the Moroccan prison of Salé started today a 24 - houres alarming hunger strike to protest the inhuman conditions and ill-treatment they suffer in the jail, said a press release of prisoners.

 

These Saharawi political prisoners, known as the "Group of Gdeim Izik" condemned all abuses and human rights violations committed by Moroccan authorities of occupation against them and the difficult conditions they face in prison since their arrest in November 2010.

 

Violent assault against Saharawi political prisoners at Black jail

El Aaiun (Occupied Territories), Oct 02, 2012 (SPS) - The administration of the Moroccan Black Jail in  the occupied city of El Aaiun, has carried out a violent assault against the Saharawi political prisoners, said Saharawi rights sources.

 

 This attack is part of a series of violent attacks by the Moroccan State against the Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan prisons, especially after the visit of the UN Rapporteur on Torture Juan Mendez on September 18th , the source underlined.

 

French MP praises “maturity” of Saharawi people

Algiers, October 1, 2012 (SPS) - The French parliamentarian Hervé Féron praised Sunday in Algiers level of “maturity and organization” characterized by the Saharawi people, who fight for their freedom and independence of their country colonized by Morocco for more than three decades.


“We were impressed by the degree of organization of the Sahrawi society,” said Mr. Féron (elected socialist) during a press conference held in Algiers, returning from a visit to the Saharawi refugee camps.

Saharawi delegation participates at 10th Congress of FRELIMO

Pemba (Mozambique), Oct 1, 2012 (SPS) - A delegation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic had participated at the 10th congress of the Liberation Front of Mozambique “FRELIMO”, took place from September 23 to 28 under the slogan “fight together against poverty, according to a source close to the delegation.


Delegations from twenty countries took part in this event, which coincides with the 50th anniversary of the foundation of Frelimo, the source added.

Moroccan occupying forces repress peaceful demonstration in occupied Smara

Smara (occupied territories), Sept 30, 2012 (SPS) - The Moroccan occupying forces violently intervened Saturday against Saharawi demonstrations, who peacefully denounced the recent political arrests as well as unfair trails and arbitrary charges in the case of 14 Saharawi prisoners, informed Saharawi rights source.


The demonstrators raised flag of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic and chanted slogans calling for the respect to human rights in Western Sahara and right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.
