CIHRS for establishment of human rights component within MINURSO

Cairo, Sept 30, 2012 (SPS) - The Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) has urged Morocco to accept the recommendation calling for the establishment of a human rights component to the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), expressing concern regarding the grave violations continued to be committed by Moroccan state against the Saharawi people.

Saharawi people deserve independence (French Official)

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Sept 30, 2012 (SPS) - The French MP and Mayor of Tomblaine Mr. Hervé Feron, who leads a delegation to the Saharawi refugee camps, said Saturday that the Saharawi people “deserve the independence”, in statements to the press at the end of a 24-hour visit.


“The Saharawi people deserve independence and freedom,” stated the Mayor Hervé Feron, expressing extreme admiration for the level of elegant organization of the Saharawi community under difficult conditions of asylum.

President of Republic receives French delegation

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Sept 30, 2012 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, received Saturday a French delegation led by the Mayor of Tomblaine Mr. Mr Hervé Feron, at the end of a working visit to the Saharawi refugee camps.


The meeting focused on the latest developments concerning Western Sahara question and France’s position on human rights and self-determination of the Saharawi people.

Mauritania for UN efforts in Western Sahara

New York, Sept 29, 2012 (SPS) - The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mauritania, Mr. Hamady Ould Hamady, emphasized Saturday his country’s support to the efforts being made by UN the Secretary-General to find a lasting and mutually agreed upon solution in Western Sahara, speaking at the 67th session of the UN General Assembly.

Mozambique concerned over delays in conducting referendum in Western Sahara

New York, Sept 29, 2012 (SPS) - The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mozambique, Mr. Oldemiro Marques Balói, expressed Saturday his country’s deep concern over the delays in conducting the self-determination referendum agreed by all parties to Western Sahara conflict, Morocco and Polisario Front, under United Nations auspices.


“The delays in conducting the referendum agreed by all parties under United Nations auspices were baffling,” stated Mr. Balói.

Uruguay at UN: any solution to Western Sahara question should respect will and rights of Saharawi people

New York, Sept 29, 2012 (SPS) - The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Uruguay Mr. Luis Almagro said Saturday that any solution to the Western Sahara issue should be based on the international law and resolutions of the UN General Assembly and Security Council, as well as respecting human rights and will of the Saharawi people, in a speech at 67th session of UN General Assembly.

“Uruguay has always defended the right of self-determination for all peoples as a key principle for the international coexistence among States,” stated Mr. Almagro.

Algeria hopes that Saharawi people would be able to exercise self-determination

New York, Sept 29, 2012 (SPS) - Algeria has expressed hope that the people of Western Sahara would be able to exercise their right to self-determination.

Speaking during the 67th session of the UN General Assembly on Saturday, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Algeria Mr. Mourad Medelci urged Morocco and the Polisario Front to act “in good faith” and launch formal talks to reach a just solution to the conflict of Western Sahara in accordance with international legitimacy. RFK Center delegation’s findings submitted to U.S. Congress

Washington, Sept 29, 2012 (SPS) - The RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights has presented the preliminary observations of his recent visit to the occupied territories of Western Sahara and Saharawi refugee camps at the end of last August to members of the U.S. Congress, said a statement released Wednesday by the Center.

JTUC-RENGO congratulates Saharawi Workers Union on 7th Congress

Takyo, Sept 29, 2012 (SPS) - The Japanese Trade Union Confederation has sent a fraternal message to the Saharawi Workers Union (UGTSARIO) on the occasion of seventh congress, expressing wishes for success of its work.


“Taking this opportunity, we would like to send our message to congratulate on UGTSARIO,” stated the letter, a copy of it reached Saturday SPS.


Japanese Confederation strongly hoped that unresolved dominium problems facing the Saharawi workers are solved.

Spain supports Ross efforts on Western Sahara conflict settlement

Boujdour (refugee camps), Sept 29, 2012 (SPS) - The President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, received Friday the delegation of African Commission on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR), at the end of an exploratory visit to the Saharawi refugee camps.


The meeting was also attended by members of the POLISARIO National Secretariat and Saharawi government.

Saharawi political prisoners in Tiznit start alarming hunger strike

Tiznit (Morocco), Sept 28, 2012 (SPS) - The Saharawi Political prisoners in Morocco’s jail of Tiznit has started today, Friday, a 24-hour alarming hunger strike in solidarity with the Saharawi political prisoner Yahia Mohamed Hafed Aizaa, informed Saharawi rights sources.


The hunger strike comes within the solidarity wave waged by the Saharawi political prisoners in different Moroccan jails in solidarity with Aizaa, who is on an open hunger strike since current September 10 in the prison of Ait Melloul, Agadir (Morocco).

Saharawi-French Friendship Association demands extension of MINURSO mandate

Paris, Sept 28, 2012 (SPS) - The Association of the Friends of Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) in France has expressed hope for the extension of the mandate of UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to include the protection of human rights, following the recent visit of the UN Special Rapporteur on torture to Morocco and occupied Western Sahara.

ACHPR delegation holds several meetings in Saharawi refugee camps

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Sept 28, 2012 (SPS) - The Delegation of the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR), visiting the Saharawi refugee camps, held several meetings with representatives of the Saharawi civil society, cadres and officials.


The delegation met Thursday at headquarters of the Association of Families of the Saharawi Prisoners and Disappeared (AFAPREDESA) with components of the Saharawi civil society.
