Saharawi Republic participates at Ojo al Sancocho’s Film Festival in Colombia

Bogotá (Colombia), Sept 16, 2012 (SPS) - The Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic is attending the fifth edition of Ojo al Sancocho’s Film Festival in Bogotá in Colombia, to launch Friday under the theme “Land and Territory” as a guest of honor, according to the Saharawi embassy in charge of a mission in Colombia.


More than ten documentaries made by the Saharawi Cinema School will be screened at the Festival.

Fourth Ordinary Session of African Youth Ministers concludes in Addis Ababa

New York, Sept 15, 2012 (SPS) - POLISARIO Representative to the UN, Mr. Boukhari Ahmed, underlined that the statements made Thursday by the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Washington, during a meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister, were “a confirmation” of the U.S. support to UN efforts for “just and durable solution to the conflict of Western Sahara.”

Humanitarian aids, school stationery for Sahrawi refugee camps

Algiers, Spt 14, 2012 (SPS)- Humanitarian aids, including foodstuffs and school stationery, will be sent soon to Sahrawi people in the refugee camps, announced Thursday here Secretary General of Algerian Red Crescent (CRA), Lahcen Bouchakour.

 

Speaking during a coordination meeting for assessing the situation in Sahrawi refugee camps, Bouchakour underlined that these aids comprise 100 portable computers donated by the Canadian firm "Dassault Maghreb" to the pupils in the refugee camps.

 

President of Republic draws attention of OHCHR to deteriorating situation of human rights in occupied territories

Bir Lehlu (liberated territories) , Spt 13, 2012 (SPS) - The President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, described the decision of the Moroccan occupation to subject 23 Saharawi Political prisoners to military trial as“unjust and contradicts the international law”, in letter to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights(OHCHR) and African Union Commission.

 

The President considered in his letter that the Moroccan decision is a return to the regimes of oppression in middle ages.

 

UN Special Rapporteur on torture in Morocco and Western Sahara shortly

New York, Spt 23, 2012 (SPS) - Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment Juan E. Mendez, will carry out 15 to 22 September in Morocco and Western Sahara, the UN said Wednesday. The independent expert will be in Al-yun (Western Sahara) on 17 and 18 September, said the same source.

 

In Morocco, the Special Rapporteur intends to travel to Rabat, Salé, Casablanca, Meknes and Skhirat-Temara.

 

EP reaffirms right of Sahrawi people to self determination

Strasburg , Spt 12, 2012 (SPS)-The European Parliament "EP" on Wednesday ratified the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination "through a democratic referendum in accordance with United Nations resolutions."

 

In its annual report on "Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union", the EP reaffirmed "the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination through a democratic referendum  in accordance with the UN resolutions to determine the status of Western Sahara ".

 

Polisario Front underlines key role of US in decolonization of Western Sahara

Bir Lehlu(liberated territories) , Spt 12, 2012 (SPS)-Minister of foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, put emphasis on the key role that the United States can pay in resolving the conflict of Western Sahara  in line with the dictates of international legality and UN resolutions.

 

In letter sent to today to Secretary of State of the United States of America, Madame Hillary Rodham Clinton,  Ould Salek recalled the global responsibility of and the leadership of the United States.

Saharawi political prisoner starts open-ended hunger strike

Ait Melloul (Morocco),  Spt 11, 2012 (SPS) - The Saharawi political prisoner Yahia Mohamed el Hafed Izza has begun on Monday an open-ended hunger strike to drew attention to the arbitrary arrest that targeted him and call for fair trail, said statement of Collective of Saharawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA).

 

The Sahrawi political prisoner has been jailed at solitary confinement in the Moroccan prison of Ait  Melloul  since 2008.

 

President Mohamed Abdelaziz appoints members of Constitutional Council

Shahed El Hafed(Saharawi refugee camps), Spt 11, 2012 (SPS) - The President of the Republic - Secretary General of the Polisario Front Mohamed Abdelaziz has appointed the new members of the of Constitutional Council under the Decree 2/3, 2004,  renewing confidence in President of the Constitutional Council, Mohamed Bouzid.

 

The President of the Republic appointed Mohamed Bouzeid under the Article (104) of the Constitution.

Young Saharawis stage open hunger strike in occupied Smara

Hararae, Sept 9, 2012 (SPS) - “ZANU-PF will continue to support Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic’s quest for independence from Morocco,” said the National Chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo, in a courtesy visit paid by the Saharawi Republic’s Ambassador in Zimbabwe, Daich Mohamed Saleh, quoted Wednesday the Zimbabwean Herald Online.

Launch of first Saharawi biometric passport

Chahid El Hafed (refugee camps), Sept 8, 2012 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Frente Polisario, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, oversaw Saturday morning at the National Centre of Documents Production the launch of the first Saharawi biometric passport, plain and diplomatic, that contains biometric information required by International Civil Aviation Organization, in accordance with the Presidential Decree 11/2012.
