Delegation of ACHPR arrives in Saharawi refugee camps

Chahid Al hafed (refugee camps), Sept 26, 2012 (SPS) - A delegation of the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR) have started today three days visit to  the Saharawi refugee camps to assess living conditions of the Saharawi refuges.

 

The ACHPR delegation paid visit to wilaya of Smara as well as several SDAR institutions .

 

The delegation also held a meeting with the Minister of Health, Mr. Mohamed Lamin Daddi and Minister of Education, Mrs. Mariam Salek .

 

Zuma urges international community to support struggle of Saharawi people

New York, Spt 26, 2012 (SPS) - President of South Africa, Jacob Zoma has reiterated on Tuesday the country’s continuing support for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara.

 

“Let me use this opportunity to reiterate our support of the ongoing struggle for the self-determination by the people of Western Sahara”, said President of South Africa in his speech before the 67th Session of the UN General Assembly.

 

Spain affirms support to the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination

New York, Spt 26, 2012 (SPS) - Prime Minister of Spain Mariano Rajoy has confirmed his country’s commitment to continue supporting a just, long-lasting and mutually acceptable solution by the two parties of the conflict, the Polisario Front and Morocco, foresees the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara.

 

Namibian President calls for enabling the Saharawi people of their right to self determination and independence

New York, Spt 26, 2012 (SPS) - The President of Namibia has expressed on Tuesday  his country’s concern the Saharawi people had been denied their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.

 

Speaking before the 67th Session of the UN General Assembly, President of Namibia, Hifikepunye Pohamba said for many decades, the people of Western Sahara had been denied their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.”

 

Brazil grants a donation of 120,000 dollars for Sahrawi refugees

Algiers, Spt 25, 2012 (SPS)The Brazilian Government will make a donation of one hundred and twenty thousand US dollars to support the activities of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the Saharawi refugee camps, said Tuesday the Embassy the Federative Republic of Brazil in Algeria.

 

The Brazilian Government hopes that this donation "will be used for the provision of school meals or other services for Saharawi students," said the same source.

 

Presidency of Republic names members of Pan-African Parliament

Chahid Al hafed (refugee camps), Sept 24, 2012 (SPS) - The President and Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz, has appointed members of the Pan African Parliament, said statement of the Presidency issued today.

 

The appointed are: Sueilma Beirouk, Jamal El Bendir, Salek Abderrahman , Seniya Ahmed Marhba and Fatma Sidi Nafi.

Screening of documentary” El Problema” in Germany

Leipzig (Germany), Spt 25, 2012 (SPS) - The documentary "El Problema”  directed by Jordi Ferrer and Pablo Vidal  was screened Monday  in the German city of leipzig, a film  highlights  the most important stages of the longstanding  struggle of the Saharawi people, said statement of  the Polisario Representation Saxony.

 

El Proplema (the Problem) focuses on the testimony of some Sahrawi human rights defenders on the deteriorating situation of human rights in occupied Western Sahara.

 

CNASPS and ACHPR demand mechanism for protection of Saharawi human rights

Algiers, Sept 24, 2012 (SPS) - The Algerian National Committee of Solidarity with the Sahrawi People (CNASPS) and African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) called Monday in Algiers on the UN to “do its best” inside the Security Council to establish a mechanism for the protection and monitoring of human rights in occupied Western Sahara.

Rabat, Sept 24, 2012 (SPS) - The UN Special Rapporteur on torture Juan Mendeznd other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, who visited on 15-22 Sept 2012 Morocco and occupied Western Sahara, said Saturday in Rabat that he had received "credible reports about excessive physical and mental pressure on detainees during interrogation."
 

Graduation of Sahrawi first aid assistants in Algiers

Algiers, Sept 23, 2012 (SPS) - The President of the Sahrawi Red Cross (SRC) Mr. Bouhabaini Yahia, has supervised the graduation of a new group of Saharawi first aid assistants, in the presence of representatives of the Algerian Red Crescent and Spanish Red Cross, according to a source of SRC.


The group has underwent, in collaboration with the Algerian Red Crescent and Spanish Red Cross, a special training on first aid action.

Friends of Saharawi people in Belgium celebrate annual day of solidarity

Belgium, Sept 23, 2012 (SPS) - The Belgian-Saharawi Friendship Association celebrated Saturday along with the Saharawi community the day of solidarity, which annually held in north Belgium, informed a source of POLISARIO representation to Brussels.


More than 800 thousands participants from America and some members of Arabic communities in Belgium attended the event, said the source.

ONG denounces Morocco’s plundering of Western Sahara phosphate

London, Sept 23, 2012 (SPS) - Western Sahara Resource Watch has denounced, in recent report provides details of over the period from 1 June until 31 August 2012, the extraction and export operations of phosphate from the Bou Craa mines at occupied El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara.


The ONG said that during the observation period the 20 vessels carried away (or were due by early September to carry away) a total of 814,000 tonnes of Saharawi phosphate, adding that such quantities exceed those recorded during the previous months.

Zimbabwe backs struggle of Saharawi people for freedom and independence (Vice-President)
