ANHRI condemns assaults on peaceful demonstrations calling for Saharawis self-determination

Cairo, Oct 1, 2012 (SPS) - The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information has condemned the acts of repression perpetuated by Moroccan regime against the peaceful demonstration calling for self-determination of the Saharawi people.


The Cairo-based Organization confirmed that the assaults on peaceful demonstration and injuring its activists deemed to be “a severe violation” to the freedom of expression and opinion, pointing that the suppression “is the only method that the Moroccan authorities recognize to address the peaceful demonstrations” in occupied Western Sahara.


It therefore criticized the failed security solutions of using the excessive violence against the demonstrators, hurting them physically, as well as arresting and prosecuting them, not to mention follow them with false charges in order to infanticide the popular movement in the country, which witnessing wide protest calling for the self-determination right.


ANHRI calls for the necessity to the rule of law and conduct an immediate investigation in these assaults, holding the responsible into account and bring them to justice.


ANHRI condemns the police officers assault on female activists after they organized a peaceful demonstration in occupied El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara, in which they called for the right to self-determination. (SPS)
