Algiers, 9 Nov 2015 (SPS) - The urgent holding of a referendum on the self-determination in Western Sahara will put an end to the conflict in these territories, which under Moroccan occupation pleaded Sunday, in Algiers, Jean Ziegler, member of the Advisory Committee to the United Nations Human Rights Council, accusing Morocco of crimes against humanity in these territories.

 

Colombia supports holding of referendum in Western Sahara

Algiers, 9 Nov 2015 (SPS) -Colombia supports the holding of a self-determination referendum in Western Sahara, occupied by Morocco since 1975, Colombia's Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin stressed Sunday in Algiers.

 

"We support all the resolutions of the UN Security Council related to this issue. We also support the holding of a self-determination referendum in Western Sahara," Holguin stressed at a press conference held jointly with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra.

International community does not assume responsibilities, regrets Sahrawi President

Shahid el Hafed, 9 Nov 2015 (SPS) -President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz, regretted that the international community is not assuming its responsibilities towards the Western Sahara issue "at a time when patience of the Saharawi people is exhausted."

 

"The international community is not meeting its responsibilities at a time when the patience of the Saharawi people is exhausted (...)", said President Mohamed Abdelaziz in an interview Saturday with the Spanish newspaper "La Vanguardia."

Morocco, a colonizing country with no sovereignty over Western Sahara

Shaheed el Hafed, 9 Nov 2015 (SPS) - Morocco is a colonizing country and has no sovereignty over Western Sahara, said Sahrawi Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Salek in response to the remarks of Moroccan Foreign Minister Salah Eddine Mezouar, republished by the Spanish news agency EFE, according to which, "Morocco will not accept the visit of Christopher Ross (the United Nations Secretary General's Special Envoy) to the occupied territories of Western Sahara."

 

Russian party condemns Moroccan violations of human rights in occupied Western Sahara

 Shaheed El Hafed, Nov. 8, 2015 (SPS) The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salem Salek, said that the decision of Morocco to prevent the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara, Christopher Ross, from visiting Saharawi occupied cities, demonstrates the isolation of Morocco and its contradiction with United Nations resolutions, which do not recognize any Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara.

NGOs call on Rabat to stop obstructing holding of referendum on self-determination

Washington, 8 Nov 2015 (SPS) - Several dozen human rights activists gathered Friday near Morocco’s embassy in Washington to ask Rabat to stop obstructing the holding of a referendum on self-determination in Western Sahara.

 

The call launched by the US Western Sahara Foundation was followed by many representatives of human rights organizations, such as the non-governmental organization Nonviolent International, Sahrawi refugees as well as a former official of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).

President of Republic makes phone call with his Mauritanian counterpart

Bir Lehlu, November 6, 2015 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz, mage a phone conversation with His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Thursday evening.

 

During the phone call, the two sides exchanged news and information on the recent developments, particularly the latest wave of torrential rain and floods that hit Sahrawi refugee camps and various areas of Western Sahara, which also included some regions of Mauritania.

 

Mauritanian government provides relief aid to Sahrawi people

Amheriz, 6 Nov 2015 (SPS) The Government of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania has provided relief aid to the Sahrawi people, following the torrential rains and floods that caused considerable damage in the Sahrawi refugee camps and some areas in Western Sahara.

 

The relief aid includes 200 tons of rice and 47 tons of oil.

 

Four human rights organizations call for release of 21 Sahrawis imprisoned by Morocco

Washington (U.S.A), 6 Nov 2015 (SPS) - Four human rights organizations called, Thursday, for the released of 21 prisoners serving long term sentences related to the 2010 protest movement in Western Sahara or grant them a fair trial before a civilian court.

The appeal was launched jointly by the Human Rights Watch (HRW), Amnesty International, the Action by Christians for the Abolition of Torture and the Sahrawi Association of Victims of Grave Human Rights Violations, said the HRW in a communiqué on Thursday.

“Such unprecedented remarks by Ban Ki-moon emphasize the historical and legal framework of the question of Western Sahara, as being unfinished matter of decolonization,” said President Mohamed Abdelaziz.

 

Ban Ki-moon calls for "true negotiations" for self-determination of Saharawi people

NEW YORK, November 05, 2015 (SPS) - Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-Moon called on Wednesday night in New York for true negotiations between the Polisario Front and Morocco to be launched in the coming months and leading to self-determination of the Saharawi people.

I urges all parties in the region and within the wider international community to take advantage of intensive efforts (led) by my Personal Envoy (Christopher Ross) to facilitate the launch of real negotiations in the coming months," stressed  Ban Ki Moon.
