Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps),Nov 5, 2015 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, on Thursday described UN Secretary General’s recent remarks as “a red card” to Morocco, especially as it comes with the 40th anniversary of Morocco’s military invasion of Western Sahara.
“Such unprecedented remarks by Ban Ki-moon emphasize the historical and legal framework of the question of Western Sahara, as being unfinished matter of decolonization,” said President Mohamed Abdelaziz.
He pointed out that Ki-moon’s statement “categorically refutes all propaganda and fallacies promoted by Moroccan Kingdom, and totally ignore the so-called Autonomy Plan. Being contrary to the fundamental requirements of international legitimacy, this project provides no basis for the resumption of negotiations.”
The Saharawi President added that such remarks are a clear message to the Kingdom Moroccan to stop blocking the efforts of the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, Mr. Christopher Ross.
The President also underlined that Morocco’s king visit to the occupied Western Sahara “is only a provocative step and attempt to redirect attention away from its failures, especially with the international community rejecting to endorse its occupation of the territory and a unique steadfastness by the Saharawi people during the past forty years.”
On other hand, he renewed Polisario Front’s readiness to engage into serious negotiations, without pre-conditions, with the goal to find a solution ensuring the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence.
Considering the statement as a step in the right direction, the President appealed to the UN Security Council to interact with the conclusions Mr. Ki-moon came up with, by taking the most effective steps that expedite the search for a just solution, on the basis of UN Charter and resolutions, notably of which the Resolution 1514.
He, moreover, called on the Security Council to assume responsibility in putting an end to the intransigence of Moroccan party, urging them to evade the region of the risks threatening peace and stability, expressed by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. (SPS)
