Morocco, a colonizing country with no sovereignty over Western Sahara

Shaheed el Hafed, 9 Nov 2015 (SPS) - Morocco is a colonizing country and has no sovereignty over Western Sahara, said Sahrawi Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Salek in response to the remarks of Moroccan Foreign Minister Salah Eddine Mezouar, republished by the Spanish news agency EFE, according to which, "Morocco will not accept the visit of Christopher Ross (the United Nations Secretary General's Special Envoy) to the occupied territories of Western Sahara."

Morocco's attempt to prevent UN Envoy Christopher Ross from visiting the occupied Sahrawi cities "proves its isolation and contradiction with UN resolutions, which do not recognize any Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara," said Ould Salek.

The Sahrawi Foreign minister also called for the decolonization of Western Sahara "on the basis of the respect for the right of Sahrawi people to self-determination."

"We believe that the policy of intransigence and attempts to evade commitments made before the international community will bring more isolation to the Kingdom of Morocco, and makes it bear alone the dangerous consequences of its colonial policy," warned Ould Salek.

"The Moroccan Foreign minister and his government must be aware that the Sahrawi people remain attached to their legitimate rights to freedom and independence and will continue to fight through the ways and means available to recover its independence," added the Sahrawi Foreign minister. (SPS)
