Human Rights abuse in Sahrawi occupied territories: Morocco may be sued

Shaheed El-Hafedh (Sahrawi refugee camps), November 24, 2013 (SPS)  - The Union of the Sahrawi lawyers plans to take legal action in Spain against Morocco for the "constant" abuses of human rights perpetrated against the Sahrawis in the occupied territories, said Friday its General Secretary, Aba Salek El-Haissan.

 

Western Sahara: Barack Obama for ''mutually acceptable'' solution

 Washington (US), November 24, 2013 (SPS)  – U.S. President Barack Obama said on Friday he will continue to support efforts to find a ''peaceful, lasting and mutually acceptable'' solution by the Polisario Front and Morocco for Western Sahara issue, and supports the efforts of UN Special envoy Christopher Ross.

Shaheed El Hafed, November 23, 2013 (SPS) -  Following the joint statement between the United States and the Kingdom of Morocco, after the visit by the King of Morocco to Washington, the Sahrawi government and the Polisario Front has noted the ‘special’ status given to the issue of decolonization of Western Sahara in the talks between the two parties, in statement released Saturday by the Ministry of Information.

 

EU-Morocco fishing agreement: Violation of international law, says Ould Salek

ALGIERS, Nvember 22, 2013 (SPS) - Fishing agreements signed between the representative of the European Union (EU) member states and Morocco by including the territory of Western Sahara is against peace efforts and a violation of the international law, Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR)’s Foreign Minister Salem Ould Salek said Thursday.

 

Ceremony to deliver mortal remains of Lekouiaa mass grave

AMHIRIZ (Liberated Territories) November 22, 2013 (SPS )  - A ceremony to deliver mortal remains of the mass grave recently discovered at Fedret Lekouiaa, in the Amhiriz freed region of Western Sahara, was held Thursday by the Sahrawi authorities in the presence of relatives of the deceased persons, representatives of MINURSO and international personalities.

 

The working group has contributed to the identification of human remains by DNA tests at the laboratories of Basque Country University, attended the ceremony held at the crime scene.

Bir Lahlou ( liberated territories ) November 22, 2013 (SPS ) - In response to the plans for oil exploration in the territorial waters of Western Sahara by two multinational companies, Cairn Energy PLC and Kosmos Energy LLC, granted licenses illegally by Morocco, the Sahrawi authority of Petroleum and energy has issued a statement considering these plans as a flagrant violation of international law and an assault on the natural resources of the Saharawi people .

 

US-Western Sahara Foundation urges Obama to use influence over Morocco

Washington, November 22, 2013 (SPS) – Chairperson of US- Western Sahara Foundation, Suzanne Scholte, sent a letter to President Barack Obama urging him to use his influence on Morocco to finally resolve Western Sahara conflict through a referendum of self-determination, while insisting on the issue of human rights.

 

Gdeim Izik detainees call on Obama to set up UN human rights monitoring mechanism

Sale (Morocco), November 22, 2013 (SPS) - Sahrawi detainees of Gdeim Izik group called on American President Barack Obama to speed up the setting-up of a United Nations mechanism for monitoring human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

 

“The situation in the occupied territories is more and more deteriorating because of the serious violations of human rights by Morocco, hence the need to speed up the setting-up of a UN human rights mechanism in Western Sahara,” underlined the detainees in a letter sent to President Obama.

 

UJSARIO 8th Congress to be held on 28-30 December

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Nov 20, 2013 (SPS) - Eighth congress of the Saharawi Youth Union (UJSARIO) will be held in the Wilaya of Awserd, Saharawi refugee camps, in the period from 28 to 30 December under the motto: “increasing the resistance to impose independence,” said the organizers.


The congress will be atended by more than 1000 Saharawi delegates, and more than 300 foreign participants representing youth organizations from Europe, Africa and Latin America.

Western Sahara mass grave: remains given formal burial

Mheiriz (liberated territories), Nov 21, 2013 (SPS) - The remains of the eight Saharawi persons, executed by Moroccan occupation army on February 1976, will be given today an official burial in Fadret Leguiaa in the liberated region of Mheiriz, Western Sahara, said Saharawi official source.


The remains of the victims of this mass grave were discovered months ago by a Basque forensic team in Fadret Leguiaa in the region of Samra, Western Sahara.

Western Sahara: New York Bar Association against any plan excluding independence

Washington, Nov 21, 2013 (SPS) -TheNew York Bar Association whichrecently studied the question of Western Sahara unanimously confirmed the ''illegality'' of any plan that excluded independence through the exercise of right to self-determination of the Sahrawis, arguing that thechoicelimited to the Moroccan autonomy plan is not consistent with international law.

Minister of Cooperation on working visit to Austria

The minister began his visit with a meeting with Ms. Petra Bayer, Member of the Austrian Parliament of the Socialist Party, and the head of the cooperation committee in the same party.

Saharawi delegation comprised of Mr. Abdallahi Busheiba, Polisario Front’s representative in the city, as well as Mailmnin Sweih and Mohamed al-Motawakel, activists of human rights.

27th February and Colley Salopette’s Italian Municipality sign twinning agreement

Livorno (Italy), Nov 20, 2013 (SPS) - The Saharawi Municipality of 27 th February and the Italian Colley Salopette signed Tuesday a twinning agreement, in the presence of Saharawi delegation, Italian officials and members of Saharawi community living in the municipality.


This twinning was signed from the Saharawi side by Ms. Fatima al-Mahdi, General Secretary of the National Union of Saharawi Women, and Mr. Lorenzo Paci, Governor of the Municipality of Colle Salpetta, from the Italian side.
