Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Nov 20, 2013 (SPS) - The Minister of Cooperation Mr. Brahim Mojtar made in the period from 17 to 19 November a working visit to Austria, by which he met with a number of officials.
The minister began his visit with a meeting with Ms. Petra Bayer, Member of the Austrian Parliament of the Socialist Party, and the head of the cooperation committee in the same party.
During this meeting, Saharawi minister focused on the peace process in Western Sahara, the obstacles placed by Moroccan government in the way of holding a free and just referendum for the Saharawi people and the continued violations of human rights in the occupied Saharawi territories.
He emphasized the need to set up a UN mechanism to monitor human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.
He also briefed the Austrian parliamentarian about the suffering of Saharawi refugees, due to the impacts of the world economic crisis on the humanitarian aid.
Saharawi Minister also received at Austrian parliament by Mr. Hillfred Carl, Advisor of the Australian parliament’s president.
During this meeting, Mr. Brahim Mijtar spoke about the latest developments on Saharawi cause, especially following the visit of UN Envoy Christopher Ross, calling on Austrian government to a greater role within the European Union to pressure Morocco so to comply with UN resolutions related to Western Sahara.
Saharawi minister also took part at the annual meeting of the Austrian-Saharawi Friendship Association, which was held in Vienna in Monday.
He was also received in the same day by some officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austria. (SPS)
