Galician Parliament urges Spanish Government to grant diplomatic status to POLISARIO

Santiago de Compostelle (Galicia, Spain), June 16, 2013 (SPS) - The Parliament of Galicia has asked the Central Government of Spain to grant diplomatic status to the Polisario Front representation in Spain, as the sole legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people recognized by the UN, as a first step towards the recognition of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, according to a statement quoted by the Spanish news agency (EFE).

Solidarity caravan sets off to Saharawi refugee camps

Biskra (Algeria), June 15, 2013 (SPS) - A caravan made up of trucks loaded with foodstuffs set off Thursday afternoon from Biskra (425-km south of Algiers) to the Saharawi refugee camps.


Initiated jointly by the National Consultative Commission for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights (CNCPPDH), the People’s Provincial Assembly (APW) of Biskra and local associations, this caravan is also loaded with clothing and dates.

Ban Ki-moon reiterates UN commitment to Saharawi people’s self-determination

NEW YORK, June 11, 2013 (SPS)- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon reiterated Monday to the president of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, Mohamed Abdelaziz, United Nation’s commitment to a solution based on a mutually acceptable agreement providing for Saharawi people’s self-determination.

 

Saharawi President met Monday, in the UN headquarters in New York, Ban Ki-Moon and the chairman of the Security Council, British Sir Mark Lyall Grant.

 

Widespread support to Saharawi cause at World Youth Congress in Manchester

London, June 10, 2013 (SPS) - A broad support to Western Sahara people’s cause and right to self-determination was expressed at the 25th World Youth Congress in Manchester, England (June 6-9).


A Saharawi scout delegation took part at this international meeting organized by the International Facon Movement (IFM-SEI).


The congress was an opportunity for young scouts, who came from many countries, to reiterate their support to the Saharawi children and their right to self-determination and independence.

Parliamentary intergroup formed in Asturias to boost recognition of Saharawis’ rights

Oviedo (Asturias), June 10, 2013 (SPS) - The five groups represented at the Government of the Principality of Asturias, Spain, have decided to create a parliamentary intergroup to boost the recognition of Saharawis’ rights, according to Europa Press.


The parliamentary group (PSOE, Forum, PP, IU and Misto-UPyD) has agreed to the creation of a parliamentary intergroup composed of one member from each of the formations with the name “Peace and Freedom for the Saharawi people.”

UN Decolonization Committee assesses Western Sahara question

New York, June 10, 2013 (SPS) - The United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization, also known as Fourth Committee or the Committee of 24, begins today two weeks of work to discuss the cases of the Falkland Islands, Puerto Rico and Western Sahara, among others.


The meeting will consider the implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples and will analyze the situation in the 16 so-called non-self governing territories, as quoted by Prensa Latina.

Delegation of Algerian community in Tunisia concludes visit to Saharawi refugee camps

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), June 9, 2013 (SPS) - A delegation of the Algerian community living in Tunisia concluded Saturday night to Sunday a visit to the Saharawi refugee camps, in which they met Saharawi officials.


The delegation includes the President of the Tunisian Association of Solidarity with Saharawi People and some civil society activists.


In a ceremony organized Saturday in the Wilaya of Smara, members of the delegation renewed their solidarity and sympathy with the Saharawi people.

UJSARIO attends 25th congress of World Scout Movement

KrF for self-determination and independence of Saharawi people

Oslo, June 8, 2013 (SPS) - The Christian Democratic Party of Norway (Norwegian acronym; KrF) has reiterated its support to the Saharawi people’s right to self-determination, in a meeting between the Party’s deputy leader Mr. Dagrun Eriksen and Polisario Front’s Representative in Norway Dr. Limam Khalil.


Dagrun called on the government of his country to effectively contribute to the search for a peaceful and fair solution to Western Sahara in respect of Saharawi people’s right to self- determination, the source said.
