Algerian humanitarian caravan for Saharawi refugees to launch next May

Algiers, March 10, 2013 (SPS) - A humanitarian caravan for the benefit of Saharawi people in the refugee camps in Tindouf will be launched next May, announced Sunday in Algiers the President of the Algerian National Committee of Solidarity with the Saharawi People (CNASPS ) Mr. Mahrez Lamari.

Paris, March 10, 2013 (SPS) - The Senator Pierre Laurent, National Secretary of the Communist Party of France (French acronym; PCF ) called upon the French Foreign Minister Mr. Laurent Fabius to intervene to cancel the sentences rendered on 18 Febcby Moroccan Military Tribunal in Rabat against 25 Saharawi activists.

Minister of Culture calls on UNESCO to assume responsibility towards Saharawi cultural heritage

Bir Lehlou (liberated territories), March 10, 2013 (SPS) - The Minister of Culture Ms. Khadija Hamdi has called on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to assume responsibility towards the cultural heritage of Saharawi people, being blurred by Morocco since 1975, last of which was issuing a formal instruction prohibiting the erection of tents in Saharawi cities or suburbs or on beach, in a letter sent Saturday to the Director-General of the Organization Ms. Irina Bokova.

Oil companies contracting with SADR meet in London

London, March 9, 2013 (SPS) - Representative of the foreign companies that have large contacts with government of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic in the field of energy met Thursday to Friday in London, in the presence of Member of POLISARIO National Secretariat Mr. Mhamed Khaddad and POLISARIO Representative to Australia Mr. Kamal Fadel.


During the meeting, Mr. Khadad spoke about the latest developments on the question of Western Sahara, including the arbitrary and criminal trial of Gdeim Izik prisoners.

Brussels, March 9, 2013 (SPS) - The Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists & Democrats in the European Parliament revealed, in a letter addressed Thursday by the President of the Group Hannes Swoboda to the Moroccan Foreign Minister, that it intends to organize a fact-finding mission to the occupied Western Sahara in the coming period, expressing deep concern about expulsion from Casablanca airport of 4 MEPs, including a Member of the S&D Group.

Saharawi delegation attends funeral of President Hugo Chávez

Caracas (Venezuela), March 9, 2013 (SPS) - A Saharawi delegation, led by the Minister Delegate for Latin America and Personal Envoy of the President of the Republic Mr. Hash Ahmed attended Friday the funeral late President of Venezuela Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías, according to a statement of SADR embassy in Caracas.


The ceremony took place at the Hall of Honor of the Venezuelan Military Academy, in the presence of 33 heads of state and delegations from 60 countries worldwide.

CNN criticizes Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara

New York, March 9, 2013 (SPS) - The well-known U.S. channel CNN made Wednesday an interview with the Moroccan ambassador to the UN, in which it criticized Moroccan regime and its illegal occupation of Western Sahara.


The interview, undergone by the U.S. journalist Christiane Amanpour, focused on the documentary “Sons of the Clouds: the Last Colony” by the Oscar-winning Spanish actor Javier Bardem, which was screened Tuesday at UN headquarters.

Moroccan ambassador in Brussels must be prevented entry to EU Parliament (MPs)

Brussels, March 8, 2013 (SPS) - European parliamentarians asked Thursday to prevent Moroccan ambassador in Brussels from entering to the European Parliament, as a response to the expulsion on Wednesday by Moroccan authorities of delegations of EU deputies were heading to El Aaiun, capital of occupied Western Sahara.


The request was made during a press conference by the 4 European MPs who were expelled by Moroccan authorities on Wednesday as they landed in Casablanca’s airport.

EU delegation prevented entry to occupied El Aaiun

Saharawi government decreed Tuesday, March 6, a national mourning throughout the country in honour of the late Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez.
