New York, March 9, 2013 (SPS) - Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights organized Tuesday a meeting at the United Nations headquarters, in New York, on human rights violations in Western Sahara, in the presence of the representatives of many UN members states and Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for western Sahara Christopher Ross.

Organized in partnership with the permanent missions of South Africa, Angola, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, the meeting was meant to raise awareness of the international community, and especially the Security Council, which will discuss in April the situation in occupied Western Sahara and human rights violations by Moroccan authorities.

Ahead of the Security Council meeting, Robert F. Kennedy Centre presented the findings of the visit its members made to the area last August.

For the same purpose, world-renowned Spanish actor, Javier Bardem, screened his documentary "Sons of the Clouds: The Last Colony," in support of the Saharawi cause. (SPS)
