Algiers, March 10, 2013 (SPS) - A humanitarian caravan for the benefit of Saharawi people in the refugee camps in Tindouf will be launched next May, announced Sunday in Algiers the President of the Algerian National Committee of Solidarity with the Saharawi People (CNASPS ) Mr. Mahrez Lamari.

“We will organize next May a humanitarian caravan, which will start from all the provinces across the country, to deliver food, medical materials and other necessary materials for the daily needs of Saharawi refugees,” said M. Lamari, during a meeting organized on this occasion.

The initiative, jointly called by the CNASPS and Algerian Red Crescent (ARC), organized under the slogan “solidarity with the Saharawi people: for a prosperous and dignified life.”

The caravan will set foot in the Saharawi refugee camps between 10 and 20 May, coinciding with the double celebration of the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Polisario Front and outbreak of the armed struggle of the Saharawi people, said the president of CNASPS .

It also comes, he added, as a response to the urgent call made by Saharawi Red Crescent of the catastrophic humanitarian situation Saharawi refugees face.

The initiative is a clear message of Algeria’s support to the Saharawi people’s right to self-determination, and its commitment to international law, human rights and noble values of humanity, underlined Mr. Lamari.

From his part, the President of the Algerian Red Crescent (ARC) Mr. Hadj Hamou Benzeguir called for the diversification of products collected during the operation, renewing ARC’s readiness to contribute in alleviating the suffering of Saharawi refugees. (SPS)
