UK reiterates support to the self-determination of Saharawi people

London, March 10, 2012 (SPS) - The United Kingdom has reaffirmed its support to the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and freedom, in a communiqué concluded works of sixth session of the Algerian-British Bilateral Committee held in London.

In a statement of the Foreign Ministry, the British Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, Mr. Alistair Burt, expressed “hope to find a solution taking into consideration right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.”

New York, March 10, 2012 (SPS) - “The Moroccan approach, which wants both the building of the Arab Maghreb and annexation of Western Sahara, is deeply contradictory,” said Saturday the Polisario Front’s Representative to the United Nations, Mr. Boukhari Ahmed, in New York.

“Giving the fact that Morocco wants to achieve both goals at the same time, the annexation of Western Sahara by force and repressing its people as well as construction of Maghreb, is a clear contradiction,” Mr. Boukhari Ahmed told the Algerian Press Agency (APS).

New round of negotiations between Polisario Front and Morocco on Sunday

New York, March 10, 2012 (SPS) - A new round of preliminary negotiations between delegations of the Polisario Front and Morocco will take place Sunday at Greentree Resort, near New York, under aegis of the United Nations and in the presence of representatives of the observer countries: Algeria and Mauritania.

Gdeim Izik detainees to start 48-hours alarming hunger strike

Sale (Morocco), March 9, 2012 (SPS) - The Saharawi political prisoners incarcerated in the Moroccan jail of Sale 2 on the ground of Gdeim Izik camp’s events declared that they will launch Friday a 48-hours alarming hunger strike to protest the mistreatment of the Prison’s administration as to demand their legitimate rights including releasing or bringing them to a fair trial, according to a statement reached SPS.

SADR participates at meeting on the millennium development goals and challenges in Africa

Addis Ababa, March 9, 2012 (SPS) - A delegation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) has take part at a meeting of the experts of finance and economy of the African Union States, United Nation’s Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), African Development Bank and UN Development Programme, held on March 7-8, 2012 in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

The meeting focused on the millennium goals of development and the challenges facing Africa.

Delegation of Sahrawi Women takes part at celebrations of International Women’s Day in New York

The event was inaugurated by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon , Ambassador of Liberia and Chair of the Commision on Status of Women, Marjon V Kamara, and  UN Executive Director for Women, Michelle Bachelet.

Polisario Front urges EP to urgently intervene to end Morocco’s repression in Western Sahara

Brussels, March 06, 2012 (SPS) -The Polisario Front has urged the European Parliament (EP) to immediately intervene and end the Moroccan repression in the occupied territories of Western Sahara,


"We reiterate the urgent and solemn demand to the European Union, to intervene and help a population at risk due to the Moroccan policy of repression in Western Sahara," wrote Minister Delegate in charge of Europe, Mohamed Sidati in a letter to European Parliament.

Belgian MP's call for expanding MINURSO mandate to protect human rights in occupied Western Sahara

Brussels, March 06, 2012 (SPS) - The Belgian Intergroup "Peace for the Saharawi People" called on Tuesday in Brussels, for expanding the MINURSO mandate to include the protection of human rights in occupied Western Sahara, according to a press release issued by the group.

"The Intergroup has sent a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay to request the extension of the MINURSO mandate to include monitoring and protection of human rights in Western Sahara, "the statement said.

Spanish party condemns brutal repression against the Saharawis in occupied Western Sahara

Madrid, March 4, 2012 (SPS) - The Special Committee of Saharawi cause of the Spanish Union, Progress and Democracy (UPyD) condemned Thursday, in a statement, the waves of brutal repression perpetuated against the Saharawi citizens in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

The statement condemned the latest arrests among the young Saharawis, who participated in peaceful demonstrations advocating the right to self-determination of the Saharawi people.

Delegation of the Saharawi women participate at 56th UN session on women

New York, March 4, 2012 (SPS) - A delegation representing the Saharawi women led by Secretary General of the Saharawi Woman Union, Ms. Fatma Mehdi, is taking part at the sixty-fifth ordinary session of the Commission on the Status of Women, held in the UN headquarters from March 1 to 9, 2012.

The session discusses several issues interesting women including the issues of peace, food security, environment and others.

IPA Urges Morocco to Authorize the Distribution of the Book "the Predator King"

Geneva, March02, and 2012 (SPS) - The International Publishers Association (IPA) Wednesday, urged Morocco to authorize the distribution of a book by Catherine Graciet and Eric Laurent entitled The Predator King (Le Roi prédateur) released in France yesterday.

The Spanish daily (El País) was banned in Morocco On Sunday February 26, because it included excerpts of the book, the predator king.
