Violent aggression against the Saharawi political prisoners in Salé

Salé (Morocco), Feb 12, 2012 (SPS) - The Moroccan repressive forces violently and brutally attacked Saturday the Saharawi political prisoners incarcerated in the Moroccan jail of Salé, informed a source of the Ministry of Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad.

The Saharawi political prisoners, known as the group of Gdeim Izik, has been surprised by the assault of some fifty Moroccan soldiers armed with sticks and batons, who proceeded to raid rooms of the prisoners and theft of their personal items, the source said.

Basque Parliament urges EU to negotiate the exploitation of Western Sahara waters with Polisario Front

Madrid, Feb 11, 2012 (SPS) - The Basque Parliament requested Thursday the European Union to negotiate with the Polisario Front, the legitimate and sole representative of the Saharawi people, on any solution allowing the European vessels to legally fish in the territorial waters of Western Sahara.

In a proposal made by the Progress and Democracy Union (UPyD), the Basque Parliament unanimously requested the European Union that if a new fisheries agreement with Morocco is negotiated, it should not include the territorial waters of Western Sahara.

Assembly of Extremadura approves a motion calling on Madrid to grant diplomatic status for the Polisario Front

Madrid, Feb 11, 2012 (SPS) - The Assembly of Extremadura approved Thursday a motion urging Madrid government to give the diplomatic status for the Frente Polisario, the sole and legitimate representative of the people of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, calling for establishing a diplomatic ties with it, reported the Western Sahara Foundation.

35 voted in favor of the motion, none against and 30 abstentions, according to the same source.

El Aaiun (occupied territories), Feb 10, 2012 (SPS) - The Moroccan authorities prevented Wednesday Saharawi widows and retirees of the so-called Moroccan Office of Drinking Water from organizing a peaceful sit-in the occupied city of El Aaiun, a human rights source informed.

The protestors aimed to demand their just and legitimate rights, but the Moroccan security services, in official and civil clothes, prevented them.

French Euro MP intends to go to EC against inclusion of Western Sahara in EU-Morocco agriculture agreement

Madrid, Feb 9, 2012 (SPS) - French Euro parliamentarian, José Bové, expressed on Wednesday, his firm opposition to the renovation of the free trade agreement between the EU and Morocco, stressing g that the agreement violates international law because it includes Western Sahara.


Supported by many of colleagues, Bové underlined he will raise a case before the European Court against a possible adoption of the agreement, next week, by the EU Parliament in Strasbourg.

European MPs call for urgent action to promote situation of Saharawi refugees

Brussels, Feb 8, 2012 (SPS) - The European Parliament's Intergroup for Western Sahara Wednesday has called on the EU to act urgently against the "intolerable situation" of the Saharawi refugees due to the lack of effective humanitarian aid.

 


In a statement, MPs expressed concern over the "alarming situation" of the Saharawi refugees living under the lack of effective humanitarian aid. "There is a dire need to act urgently to stop this intolerable situation," they warned.

Aminatou Haidar to visit Sahrawi refugee camps soon
