Basque Parliament urges Spain to work for human rights monitoring within MINURSO mandate

Vitoria, March 29, 2012 (SPS) – the Basque Parliament has urged on the Spanish government to work within European Union for the inclusion of human rights component within functions of the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), when renewing its mandates.

 


In statement issued Thursday, Basque Parliament called on the Spanish government to contribute in achieving a last solution to the Western Sahara conflict ensures the Saharawi people’s right to self-determination.

 

Saharawi cause almost forgotten by the international community, says UN official

Rome March 27, 2012 (SPS) - The cause of the Saharawi people is almost forgotten by the international community, said Tuesday in Rome bureau chief for regional humanitarian protection from the High Commissioner for Refugees United Nations (UNHCR).

 

"I feel that the cause of the Saharawi people and the Sahrawi refugees in Tindouf (southern Algeria) is almost forgotten by the international community, "the official said in a statement to the Algerian News Agency (APS) following the visit of the delegation present in Italy as part of a study mission.

 

Aminatou Haidar gives a lecture on struggle to uphold human rights in Western Sahara at George Washington University

Washington DC, March 27 2012 (SPS) - The Saharawi human rights activist, Aminatou Haidar, gave on Tuesday at Faculty of law at George Washington University a lecture under the theme “The Struggle to Uphold Human Rights in Western Sahara.”

 


The President of the Collective of Sahrawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA) arrived in Washington DC at the invitation of GW Human Rights Law Society & the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights.

 

Ambassador Brahim Ghali praises Algerian media’s role in defending Saharawi cause

Algiers, March 27, 2012 (SPS) - Member of National secretariat of the Polisario Front and Ambassador to Algeria, Brahim Ghali, has hailed on Monday the role of the Algerian newspaper “Chaab “  (the people) in raising the awareness of the national and international public opinion on the Saharawi people struggle, During a visit to the newspaper on the occasion of the appointment of its new director.

 


Ambassador Ghali applauded the efforts of the Algerian Media to convey the Saharawi people’s voice.

Abuja(Nigeria) March27 ;2012(SPS) the Ambassador of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic ,to Nigeria, Ubi Bushraya, participated in the ninth congress  of the Peoples Democratic Party (DPP) the ruling patty of Nigeria, took place  in Abuja from 24to25March.
 

The occasion was an opportunity to Ambassador to inform many leaders of the party about the latest developments of decolonization process from Western Sahara, According to Saharawi embassy to Nigeria.

Socialist International reiterates support for Saharawi people’s right to self-determination

Istanbul (Turkey), March 26, 2012 (SPS) - The Socialist International Special Committee on the Arab World has reiterated its support for the right of the Saharawi people to self determination, expressing willingness to work for democracy and human rights.

Gathered in Istanbul for its second meeting on 23-24 March 2012 to address the developments in Arab World, the Committee reaffirmed, in a final communiqué , on right of the Saharawi people to self determination as expressed by the Socialist International Council in Athens last year.

Dublin (Ireland), March 25, 2012 (SPS) - A delegation of the National Union of Saharawi Woman, led by its Secretary General Ms. Fatma Mehdi, is visiting these days Ireland, where they held various activities and meetings with international organizations such as the Frontline Defenders, Sahrawi diplomats informed.

Venezuelan Ambassador to Algeria reaffirms his country’ support to Saharawi people's right to self-determination

Algiers, March 22, 2012 (SPS) - The Ambassador of Venezuela in Algeria, Hector Michel Mujican, reaffirmed on Thursday his country's firm support to the Sahrawi people's struggle for their right to self-determination, during a meeting with Ambassador Brahim Ghali held at SADR embassy in Algiers.


The Venezuelan diplomat expressed his desire to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Moroccan authorities of occupation assault Sahrawi student in occupied city of El Aaiun

El Aaiun (Occupied Territories), March 22, 2011(SPS) –Moroccan police assaulted on Sunday the Saharawi student, Mohamed Mousawi (21 years) in the occupied city of El Aaiun, according to a source of the Ministry of the Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad.


“The blatant attack against the Saharawi student took place Sunday night where Moroccan police agents in uniforms assaulted the Saharawi young before his house in neighborhood of Alquds ”, the source said .

National council committee for External Affairs, Information and Prtocol discusses 2012 Government programme

June 9th School (refugee camps), March 21, 2012 (SPS) - Committee on External Affairs, Information and Protocol of the National Council (Parliament) ended today  discussions on 2012 Government programme in the presence of Prime Minister and members of government .


The session focused  on the need to revitalize and activate the role of the missions and embassies of the Saharawi Republic in order to achieve greater support to the Saharawi struggle as well as taking advantage of the current changes affecting the region of the Maghreb.
